Player constantly colliding with background

Hello, I'm totally new at this so please bare with me, I'll try my best to explain

I'm making a game where the character has to stay on a platform, and if he falls off, he dies.

So I have a background as one actor
The platform as another actor

Theoretically I would have they player actor collide with the background actor and then have it destroy, but since its the background, it's constantly colliding with the background and it gets destroyed immediately since the "platform" is sitting on top of it.

Is there any way solve this problem?
