BubbleBall, by 14-year old Robert Nay, is #1 in the App Store!!
It's official - someone has toppled the mighty Angry Birds juggernaut from the #1 spot in the App Store. And it was done by Robert Nay, a 14-year old developer from Utah, on his first try using Corona!!!
It's a great story - Robert actually started developing his game in GameSalad, but decided Corona SDK was a better tool. He put it up on the App Store a couple of weeks ago. We actually named him the App of the Week just a few days ago - it has since exploded and, as of last night, is the #1 free app.
I grabbed the game last week, and it's pretty good fun (not sure what some of the reviews are on about it being sluggish, I found it super responsive when playing)
aaaanyways
Congrats on the number 1. You need to capitalise on that somehow? Get some ads in there?
I'm going to do an in app purchase when Corona comes out with support for those, with an additional level pack or two. I'm probably not going to do ads (just because I think ads in games are super super annoying), and @Hunnenkoenig, I know, I'm not too good at graphics, it's just this game had $0 budget, so I couldn't hire anyone.
@Cardinal but it's ranked so high in all the free lists, if I charged money, it wouldn't be nearly as high in the paid lists. And besides, it's only got 21 levels for now.

How about you make your next app a paid one. And then have a link to your own paid game at the end if you complete Bubble Ball...
In the mean time a link to 'Quake Builder' should be fine. :-)
Congratulations! As everybody said, I think the combination of these should help you to make money of it. 1-In App Purchase 2-Ads 3-Buy More levels 4-HD version
Congratulations on your success. I don't want to be a downer, but it's games like this that make me wonder why I try at all? I just need to stick to the simplistic physics games.
Robert great job on your success , I'm currently looking into Corona SDK ,, and I would like to know what book did you research in to help you with Corona.
If you have the name of the books that would be very helpful

It could have been made in GS easily. Nothing special here.
I honestly don't understand the hype. I think there are hundreds of similar games probably with better graphics on the appstore.
If this can be so successful, then i have high hopes for my phisics game to be succesfull.
None the less gratz on it. However i start to question the "urteilsvermögen" (look it up in german, i forgot the english word and i am on my iphone :-p) of the appstore users.
I am 14 also so right now I envy your success haha. One day your an average 14 year old the next week your on the news. What a life huh? And if you need graphics ever I could help you for free. I could use the publicity haha. Anyways nice job. GS could of used the publicity too. haha. DL
I think the reason "why" his game did so well is because he was able to have a LOT of "friends" download it at the beginning which in turn made Apple place it accordingly?
A few years ago, I had a business partner who hat roots in Utah as well and I reMember that one day, we needed a choir to record a chorus for a song. I did not know where to get a choir from that would be willing to learn the arrangement and then record it for us.
She made a few calls and .... we recorded on the weekend
The reason why he had such success was because corona named bubble ball their app of the week. After that, it went crazy with downloads. More people were hearing his story by then, and downloads were increasing more and more as more people were hearing that a 14 year old created this app.
I've played it and it's actually quite fun. Don't know if it deserved the #1 spot, but it's definitely a good game.

Your saying out of the thousands of polished games with amazing graphics that this one stands out? I don't think so. I think it's a great achievement but it relies purely to his age and being created with a new program who will want to push this kinda story. Think it's very impressive for him to make an app though Hats off to him

Can you do me a favour?
Update it and pop a link in for 3 of my games.
Seriously wondering how you can make the most of this....what are your plans?
Darren.
Addictive sense of satisfaction when a setup works.

Now get the pro edition of Corona and charge some money :-P
Well done!
You could work on your graphics though.
In the mean time a link to 'Quake Builder' should be fine. :-)
