Does it really make a difference having 300 actors vs. a few ?

Morning,
Just curious -
does it really make a difference having 300 actors or just a few actors and lots of instances of that actor.
From a performance perspective -

An actor for each of your shapes in a game OR one actor dragged in the scene multiple times and then just change the static image of that instance to the shape you want it.

getting ready to make that change, just want to make sure it's worth the time to correct it all.
I keep getting people telling me my app is crashing on them which i can't reproduce so i'm thinking of
fine tuning the whole app with less actors and scenes.

thx

    Yes, it's worth it.

You have less *prototype* actors to load into memory - which should improve performance.

    Good luck!

Yes I believe if they are in the same scene it will have a huge effect. If you have 300 instances of one actor you have the same image loaded and displayed on all of them where if you have 300 actors to have just loaded 300 different images in you scene and if they are very big will probably have killed the game.

Not sure one instance with 300 different images will be any different though.

Maybe try http://imageoptim.pornel.net/ someone posted that just a little while ago says it cuts down on image size

But j just hate the feelIng of unlocking the instance of the actor. I think if it's locked then the scene has less to load so it would be faster. But then again more actors would cause slowdowns as well. In the end I prefer having more actors rather then editing the instance.

Sometimes its needed to get to scene attributes as well :p

Thx for the replies. I actually have about 350 actors total for the app.
But not in one scene. One scene might have 40 actors and half of those with
3 rules in them and the other half with 2 position change attributes in them.
    Other scenes have 10-20 actors.

This is for my toddler fun and toddler fun hd apps.
Anyone care to have a promo code just let me know.
Trying to fine tune these because of complaints of
Crashing on the iPhone version but not so much on iPad one.
Side note. Had about 16,000 free downloads on iPhone and about 500 paid downloads on iPad.
