that's why i'm gonna learn how to use corona engine. It's much better and they have a roadmap for future updates too.

We're (Corona users) getting In App Purchasing this month, a good time to look into it.

    I'm insanely waiting for that update, not much for the iap, but for the bitmap masking ;_;
  • EminemEminem Member Posts: 667
First they remove custom splash then they piss of all devs by saying that they cant publish for themselves and it takes almost forever for them to release a small little update.

All they did for 0.9 was bring down the memory leak (still there)

They did not add anything except making it free and bringing down the pro and no more custom splash

    What's the point!!!

Anyways , does anyone know if corona can build Mac AppStore apps?

    Hey, to be honest I've been really slack with emails lately, like REALLY slack. I have two comps and I keep email on one while the other is just for work, and I've been working a lot ^-^;

I'm doing decently, annoyed sales reports are later than usual today, though! What about you?

@Eminem It doesn't currently, no - but it takes all of 5 minutes to make an iPhone app work on Android. ;)

@Hachiko - I am just excited that we're getting another update so soon. It's so frequent, it's nuts. I love it.

I think two things are being combined here.

Customer Service - That's actually excellent with GameSalad. Unlike the forums, the GameSalad team is very responsive to technical issues with the software. Also, you can see how seriously CodeMonkey handles this matter. He is very responsive to technical issues. He even posts on this forum when there is a technical issue with GameSalad.

Community Relations - This is a separate matter. I think the team has decided it is better not to discuss forward-looking matters with the community.

Should there be a splash screen? I think not. I would change their marketing strategy.

    1) Honey vs. vinegar - By forcing the splash screen on users, I don't think that motivates people to be volunteer marketeers for GameSalad. It's odd. The software is free, but popularity hasn't improved that much. Instead, I would either setup an affiliate program, to encourage players to promote GameSalad in their games and on their websites, or I would look into the Mac App Store. If Apple's affiliate program works there, GameSalad could gain visibility and build an army of promoters.

    2) I would be more active about the future. There seems to be some good news in GameSalad's future. Developers are forward-thinking. Knowing what GameSalad is going to do helps with planning.

    3) GameSalad needs a hit game. I think they should build it themselves. They should form a team of the best artists and "programmers" to create a game that will dominate the top of the charts - to really show what GameSalad can do.

    4) Follow-up on Accelerator. This is a really good idea. It seems to be off to a slow start.

    5) A new competition! GameSalad should encourage developers to build great games, not quick games.

i get the feeling that whatever contract they signed for that investment money is keeping their hands tied behind their back. Before that announcement they were a lot better about responding to questions on the forums, but their email support has always been lacking.

    Hi..

When companies are quiet like this..means 2 things.....

    1. they are in Hawaii spending the investors money
    2. they are preparing to sell the company

This scenario seems very likely to me. There are problems with the project... ones that could be easily resolved by a company like Microsoft, Google or Apple. Plus, app making is a hot item right now. Considering that the basic version of the software went free, there is good reason to suspect an impending buyout. Investors want to make money! The easiest way to do that with GameSalad is to sell the company to someone with deep pockets.

However, there is another option... perhaps they're just working. I find that I'm more productive when I stay off the forums. HA HA! :)

I don't know if I'd sell the company right now. With the Mac App Store... and if they can add Android support... the software could be very VERY valuable. If GameSalad is sold now, it might not make as much money as it could. Things also depend on their financial state. If the investors are putting pressure on the team, that could cause problems. Yet... investing in companies like GameSalad seems to be trendy for investors right now.

Of course the investors are going to be putting pressure on the team...

If you'd invested, and then seen the whole GS Direct saga unfold, and the whole pricing structure bottom out, you'd be asking some very serious questions as to whether the company actually knows what direction its going in.... I would.

But forgetting all that side of things for now, the serious lack of helpful information for its users is whats going to end up driving GameSalad the way of Torque....

The software has barely moved forward in ten months... theres been a whole heap of broken promises... and the users still have no idea when certain features or improvements are to be implemented.

Look at every other popular/successful development engine out there, and you'll see published roadmaps, regular updates, good community interaction, and a direction that doesnt change on its head every other month....

What happened to "the big picture"? Has all forms for communication stopped (again)?
  • SparkyidrSparkyidr Member Posts: 2,033
It's worrying that they are not more "in the public eye".

In theory, they should be the market leader.
It's the only dev engine with drag and drop that exports to an iOS publishable format.

They need to be capitalising on that before it's too late and everyone else catches up.
Once Corona add a drag and drop (if...they do), I fear it will signal the death of GS.

It's a shame, because the software IS great, and there is no denying the technical team's ability.
It seems the business side is letting them down.

    just my 2p

And yeah, what happened to these Big Picture posts that were going to be every month??? We have had the grand total of 2 if I am not mistaken?

The whole thing just worries me to honest. It feels like we are being left to fend for ourselves at the mo....with some beta software.....oh yeah, right. :o)

Everyone on the tech team...luv ya

everyone else.....come on, sort it out.

I've bored myself now, so I'll shut up.

well guys, they sit in the same boat we are in, just on a different scale!

A "community manager" would be a great addition to the GS team but, who am i to advise them?

I believe for the time being, until they can polish things up the basic version is free in order to shut us up (which doesn't seem to be working ;)

As long as they charge me zero, I will complain zero!

The software is GREAT and has a lot of potential. I heard someone say that the app market will go from 1 billion (now) to 4 billion by 2014? Think about that!

    I want in :)

While it is quiet around here, they might already be the Market leader. Well, Unity 3D is popular, but that's another level.

There was Torque, but they didn't make it. That leaves Corona, Flash... maybe some others.

GameSalad could increase popularity by fixing the Web Plug-in. That's a significant part of this website that doesn't work properly. It is a beta, but the money that can be made is real. So, if you think this is bad, you could be waiting for the sequel to Guild Wars. HA HA! At least when I load up the GameSalad website, I'm not confronted with the words "MMO Manifesto".

I've seen lots of Internet communities over the years. Things do look bad here. Heh, but they could be worse.

I love gamesalad, i know nothing about coding for a game or an application, with gamesalad sure the spawn and destroy memory leak is annoying, but its hell of alot easier to find a work around than actually coding the game letter by letter.

also i would love for the web plugin to be improved. i would like to see it on other browsers not just safari, because safari is slow as hell for me. and i don't know why but the download project doesn't work, gamesalad can't play the files i get from the download. it would be hell of a lot easier for people to share and help eachother if they could just provide a link showing it working with a download for them to decipher the code used.

all im saying is keep faith, be supportive and will someone get out a top 50 game already. which also means- we need a lot more cookbook tutorials, the more newcomers could be able to do what they want without having to break it down into a huge mathematical word problem, the better

The project downloads do work. you have to rightclick the download project button, save linked file, then change the file to a .zip file, then after you do that double clikc the .zip file and the gameproject pops out

I have been wondering how GS is making money at the moment. They offer it for free now and if I remember from all the talk before the 0.9 update there was supposed to be ads running just after the GS start up slash which has never happened in any of my games.

I really hope GS keep going and don't sell out to a big company especially Microsoft as they have a habit of f'ing most things up (sorry but they do). If they do sell I hope it's to Apple as even with Steve Jobs give with one hand and take with the other philosophy, their software still beats most.

I would love some kind of road map and more updates, a year ago we where getting updates every two/four weeks but now we wait ages and really 0.9 besides the new splash (which I prefer) and new pricing seems to have the same problems with slow down and memory usage ,it's really annoy having to quit and restart evert 5/10 minutes and not being able to leave projects open.

Please GS Team, keeps us informed regarding the future of GS.

    @john

why dont they just make the download .zip instead of .game or even make it come straight out the box with a .gameproj file that works? or atleast a message box saying thats what you needed to do in order to get the right file

This is from Torque's website "I wanted to let everyone know that we are no longer entertaining buyers at this time. Unfortunately, we aren’t going to be able to make any comments until the new year. Please stand by for more information and enjoy the holiday season. The future looks bright."

Is Torque really no more? I hope not as I want the app dev community to be as strong as possible.

Actually only the old ones work. You cannot publish anything available for download anymore even when checking to make it available.
