Hey guys this goes to show you anything can be a hit. 2,000,000 downloads and theres not a ton of fancy art or anything. Granted its a free app but still top free. The App Stores a Crap shoot I have really begun to believe that.

    Probably to speed things up. If you know lua, it can actually be quicker then gs sometimes.

    thats how you display a background, pretty self explanitory. You would be surprised how easy it is

    still love gs though <3

    also look at the video on there the shows the game made in 8 minutes or something like that, and look at the code he types and what he says.

    I've been learning corona the past few days and once I got my head around a few things I'm actually finding it quite easy. I just wish timers were as simple as gs.

    I recall him making that game with GS, if Corona had in app purchasing, he'd be laughing all the way to the bank too :)

    Did he have any advertising or anything, or did it just rise to the top all on it's own? Very astonishing!

    While he seems like a nice kid, I have to say if he wasn't 14 and had released this app, he would not have gotten anywhere near the amount of publicity or success he has had.

    How does his age have anything to with his success? Nobody new he was 14 when they downloaded his game.

    Probabbly so except it drop angry birds from number 1 which is a pretty big deal. although I think it was the holiday one that got knocked down so not quite the same. Still very impressive. I don't like how the reporter was all if he had charge .99 for the he would have made $2,000,000. THats not true cause not near as many people would download the game if it was paid. if it was paid it would all depend on the marketing like everyone else. oh yeah and the luck. cause at first look the art is very plain and even in the game its very plain. as much as I have played so far.

    I still think its very impressive regardless of the help he had and Also a big win for indie developers.

    You don't know that. Everyone knew doodle destroy was a 14 year old. Im not saying the success is due to his age i'm agreeing the publicity now is due to the his age.

    i definetly agree with you there buddy. Thats why i said his success and not his age. Anyone that bumped out angry birds would get some attention, but i doubt they would have been on good morning america

    Uh yes they did. Most of the initial publicity (such as from Corona) clearly emphasised this. Once he got on a roll, we all know the App Store is rather self perpetuating, with even more media covering the story.     Not trying to be a jerk, he seems like a great kid, but there are plenty of similar games to this, and a number which have been done better in my view.

    I agree completely. Even the reviews have either negative ones or five star ones about how it's a 14 year old.

    If anyone wants help getting started with Corona... I can help you get started for 15$ per hour.

    I can give you an introduction to displaying graphics, physics, animation, collision, scene changes, particles, spawning etc.

    Not trying to make an advertisement here, just want to help folk out :)

    This really isn't the place to talk about that sort of place, keep over on ansca's forums. I think its fine to discuss the differences between the two products, but don't use the gs forums to advertise corona services.

    I don't see the need to criticize. He seems like a normal person... very professional actually... he even mentioned Corona. He was wise to keep his future plans secret. He's smart!

    The $2,000,000 figure doesn't seem accurate though. If he charged a dollar for the app, I'm thinking that the game would likely have fallen into obscurity. To compare it to Angry Birds is not exactly a true comparison.

    However, there seems to be a demand for more levels. With a quick addition of in-app purchases and some more levels to Bubble Ball, Robert might be able to create his own college scholarship. But with a successful business at an early age, college isn't really necessary.

    I don't understand how this app made it to the top of the free apps when so many other great apps did not. Yet, that doesn't matter. This is a great story here.

    It should also be motivation for everyone in this community. Are you saying you can't build better than Bubble Ball?! And to the GameSalad team... are you going to let Corona get away with that?! GameSalad is supposed to be the easy to use software, but a 14 year old picked Corona!
