Eyes blinking, extremely necessary?

Just wanted to know your thoughts about that, I usually spend a lot of time with every new character to make it blink as a must-do behavior, even for the very tiny little ones.
(Check my free project at http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=15938 )
The ladybug blinks every few seconds.

Sometimes it's a hard work or very easy, it depends on the character, orientation... I don't really now if it has so much impact to gave it the effort it needs.

What do you think?

I think it's a nice touch but maybe not required.

    I think it's extremely necessary!

It doesn't take a long time to do, and gives your character some personality!

I more care about large motion of characters than little things. Who knows how much time is wasted by the animation studios of the world doing "lip flaps"* when they could be drawing other things?

In a show like South Park, that's most of the motion. ;-)

*this is actually a voiceover term.

Aye Mr. Keller, but if everyone's doing the big motions anyway, why not stand out with the little things? :)

I think its a nice touch that helps bring any character to life, even if they don't move in any other way, a static character blinking will tell you they're alive.

It seems clear... as Tallahashi (Zombieland) says, enjoy little things :D Thanks to all! This is not closed so if anyone else wants to share their thoughts you'll be very welcome.

BTW, the post I mention at the very top of this thread has only received two comments and that discourages me a lot, I really want to know if people like it and what would they change to make it really awesome, so if you find a minute, please leave some feedback.

    Many thanks ;-)

While I think you can get away without it, it does add a sense of realism.

i never even noticed it, if the ladybug wasn't so small, it would be a great touch. but if your performance is hurting, it should be the first thing to go

That's not the case, that project runs fine I ask this more in a general manner, for future projects and a top secret one I'm developing right now. :D
