Cleanest movement function for a top down game?

Hey, quick question. What would be the cleanest movement for a top down game? Move, Velocity, or Acceleration? I just want clean collisions with walls and such. The character is "Running", it's not a car or anything like that, so I would want the speed to be consistent. Also I am using a touch joystick for the movement, (much like the one in the Joystick tutorial in Support) So the character moves at the angle of the joystick.

but you can designate a top speed for an actor, so that could be his mix running speeed

Here you have one type of movement for balls (acceleration) and another for the bug (movement). Both have top speed defined.
