Wow... 3% of all iOS apps... that's cool.

Why isn't that in a GameSalad press release?!

    GET MOVING ON MARKETING!

I was curious about the 3 million dollar one as well!?

Hmmmm... yes the 3 million dollar one sparked my interest.... :) Although I think we would have more than heard about it by now, or it would be on the cover of GS's website?

I think that might have been an inside joke or a shot at Yodapollo.

It's also the stigma that GameSalad faces. There's this mindset in game development that it has to be about code. I've also seen this same nonsense applied to web development - job postings with the words "Must know how to hand code HTML". Would you hire a carpenter with such a requirement, "No power tools!"

    That would be silly!
Too many people in the world lack vision.

GameSalad (or programs like it) is the future of game development. I don't use command prompts to use my computer. I don't see a need to type out wacky lines of code to make a character move across the screen.

I bet this guy didn't research crap. Bubble Ball is over 3million downloads now. I bet he saw that story and the number of downloads and ran with it not realizing bubble ball only started as a GS game, but didnt finish that way and is a free app with 3,000,000 downloads not revenue.

To be fair, even idiots and lowlifes can and DO make apps with GameSalad.

Mateen would be a good example. He publishes templates, steals names and has over 50 iPhone apps up. (I think it might actually be in the 80s?) Plus he recently tried to sell an opensource Emoji enabler here for $100 a pop claiming to have written it himself.

Side note: Anyone seen those bogus phone tracker apps that Apple is doing NOTHING about? There are a few identical ones up, just saw one was in top grossing entertainment.

Apparently somebody did use gamesalad to make a 3M$ app, but it was a white label product for a different company and they are not allowed to talk about it.

I figured it was a typo ... ho nose ;-)

    Photics,
great analysis "carpenter with no power tools". I like it. I like it a lot!

    @firemaplegames
The other day, someone posted an interview of a Croatian dev who stated that hey (him and his brother) had the best selling app ever ... some doodle thing and it sold ~ 3 million or a little more.

I find that hard to believe that there was a GS game that could do so much without anyone knowing. Especially that review guy who pretends to have insider info ... or maybe he has.

There are a lot of clues to track it down...

#1 entertainment app — that narrows down the possibilities significantly.
It's also likely a paid app, as it made money.

And if it has had an update in the last few months it should now have a splash screen

Hmmmm very interesting Firemaple! I wasn't aware of it, but kudos to them if it's true :)

I'm too busy for that. :)

Here's a pretty big magnifying glass though...

Basically, it's a matter of going back in time and creating a list of #1 apps. That should reduce the possibilities even further.

Maybe this is related to the GameSalad direct® thing. Perhaps GameSalad saw the $3 Million app and wanted a piece of the action, so maybe this is something that happened between the Summer and now. I'm thinking it probably happened in the last year. So, that's only 365 pages to check.

    Here's a start...

    Jan 18, 2011 - Fatbooth
    Jan 17, 2011 - Fatbooth
    Jan 16, 2011 - Fatbooth
    Jan 15, 2011 - Fatbooth

I'm thinking it's not that. The technology required for something like that doesn't exactly say, "Made with GameSalad".

    Jan 14, 2011 - Gun Builder

I'm thinking it's not that either. This doesn't appear to be a big company that would demand silence.

    You might be right, Joe.
I heard from a partner developer here in Brazil that a publisher company from Austin used Gamesalad to make an app for a huge media group, and made a 7-digit income with it, about a year ago.

Maybe it was a #1 app somewhere outside of the US?

I think Tenrdrmer nailed it right, This goof mixed up some info he glanced at and made a stupid article. Why the secrecy if an app was successful and made with Gamesalad? 3 million dollar app and nobody here knows of it? hard to believe,
