iPhone game => iPad game

Hello,
My game (The Train episode 01) is made for iPhone, and available on AppStore. Today I played it, for the first time on iPad (in the full screen mode). I was shocked, because graphics were sharp and in great quality (almost as on the iPhone).
Could you please answer me these two questions:
1. What do I need to do to publish an iPad game from my iPhone game? Do I only need to change sizes of scenes and actors?
2. If my iPhone game looks great on iPad in the full screen mode (2x), it should look the same, when I make a full iPad version with the same graphics, am I right?

Thank you very much!

    Hi Moownwalls,
If the graphics looked great, that means that you created them for the iPhone4 and used the 960 x 620 image dimensions and RI.

Basically, to make your game for the iPad, you need to ether recreate your images with a 1024 by 768 dimension or, use the same images and fill in the background so that the user does not notice the slightly smaller images.

I've done the same thing for my clarinet app which i made for the iphone4 and installed on the ipad. I too was pleased with the way the gfx looked after pressing the x2 btn.

    Thanks for your reply xyloFUN!
It's funny, because many of my graphics are made for older iPhones (480x320), and I heard from few reviewers (from TouchMyApps and 148apps), that my game looks great also on iPhone 4 (and I don't have RI!).

If I understand it in the right way: if I run an iPhone game on iPad (it runs in the window mode), and click on the 2x button, game stretches and runs in the full screen mode. So every graphic is stretched two times, right?
So, if those looks good, then I should get the same effect, when I change ONLY the sizes of scenes and actors in GS, and publish it as an iPad game, right?

I just fired up my (one and only iPhone app) Clarinet and it opens, displaying a 480 x 360 res.
When I enable x2, i get the original image size which I created for the iPhone4.
There is about a 1/4 inch space to the left and right and about 1/2 inch space at the top and bottom. My app is set to landscape mode only.

There are photoshop plugins which let you resize your images without loss of quality but I don't have any experience with doing that.

If it's not too much trouble, I would recreate the artwork, assuming you made backups of the gfx files in their "editable" form and not saved out png images?
Be proud of your games and make them look as good as you can. That's the first thing the player notices and I would not take any chances with gfx :)

Hey guys, I ran into the same thing with my iPhone app, iShoot It. The graphics were designed for the iPhone 4, and when ran on an iPad, the graphics looked better than I expected. Then I wanted to make an iPad version as quickly as possible, without compromising quality. What I did was this. Because the graphics were good, I kept the same ones for the iPad version, but just modified the size of EVERYTHING. On every actor, background image, text size, spawn actor location, etc., I multiplied the X value by 2.13333333, and they Y value by 2.4. That took care of the position of everything on the iPad screen. For the size of everything, I multiplied the width by 2.13333333, and the height by 2.4. This keeps the sizes of all my actors, backgrounds, buttons, etc. proportional, and the same size ratio as the iPhone version, just enlarged to fit the iPad screen. Hope this makes sense :)

    Hi Guys,

Considering that I am building my game only for iPhone..what should be the dimensions of the images..I mean for iPhone3x vs iPhone 4.. At this moment I have 480 X 320. Would it look different in iPhone 4 ?

Also, the sizes of the actors ( and hence their associated images) needs to be re-scaled right ?

    Hey fellow GSGD,

    no re-scaling!

    Build for iPhone 4 {see about dimensions in the post(s) above} :)

Thanks..I will keep that in mind..

However, when you say that build for iPhone 4..do you mean I should only build the game with 960 X 620 and not 480 x 320 ? Reason I am asking this because I guess I would be publishing the app once for iPhone..In that case, what would happen if someone with iPhone 3GS tries to play the game ?

    Hello,
I have few more questions, about making an iPad game from iPhone game:
    1. Could you please recommend me any good software for changing the images sizes without (or with very small) quality lost?
    2. How big the images should be for iPad? Do I have to simply make every image bigger 2 times? What about small images (like interface buttons)?
    3. Do I need to change anything more (I'm still talking about the images), for example: dpi?
    4. And in the project file, do I have to ONLY change sizes of all scenes and actors, or maybe something more, for example: positions?
    5. Do I need to do anything more?

    Thank you very much!
