Any "advanced" pixelmator users here?

Hey,
the other day, I bought pixelmator because creating my text files with GIMP was too time consuming as there is no spell checker *(yet).

So, I bought pixelmator which to my surprize is actually quite lame and making an accurate selection is ????

I assume that I am overlooking something so please tell me this:

Say I open an image, select "show grid" and preferences are set to snap to grid, guides etc ...

WHY OH WHY are the readouts (little pop up) like 43 x 65 pixels and NEVER go to straights of 10 as the grid defaults to?
How can I make a perfect 300 x 500 selection and not 302 x 499?

There must be something I am not getting?

PLEASE tell me how this is done?

P.S. I started with Photoshop when it came on floppy disks ... but back then, PS3 could make selections like they ought to be made :)

use the wand tool or selection tools that show up on the right at the top of the bar.

Unfortunately, that is not an option for I need to do :(

Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.

I just remembered that I got photoshop elements with my bamboo tablet so I'm getting a torrent of the 7 version because the disk which came with the tablet includes a corrupted image that no one bothered to check! I HATE poor quality control!

To others who are considering to buy pixelmator DON'T!
Until they implement basic functionality, it's like buying a Chevy with three wheels!

I wish I could return it because every post i find criticizes that lack as well. There doesn't seam to be a fix for it. So if time is valuable to you, stay clear of pixelmator. It's not ready for prime time!
Maybe they give us version 2 for free when it's released? And maybe it can make a precise selection?
