Hello.
Yesterday was my first time with iads. My Game Save Cubes for iPhone was downloaded over 500 times yesterday. Almost all of them was from the United States.

I had 577 requestes and only 3 impressions, and no money.

Today I got $0.20...

I don't think will be possible to maintain the game as FREE. My other one Save Cubes for iPad, is U$2,99, but its selling at least 1 unit a day.

Thats a horrible fill rate. I'm averaging 5% over a week now. and unfortunately the money comes from clicks throughs it seems an impression only pay $0.01 if your lucky. But click throughs pay about $0.30 it seems when I start attempting to calculate stuff out.

Over Xmas I was getting around 30% fill rates and $8 a day, but now it's about 2-10% and on average 0.5-$2 a day. I thought clicks were worth about $0.30 also, but today one of my apps has had 2 impressions and 1 click, and it's on $1.23! Must depend on the ad that is clicked.

Do you check your primary target audience is users under 17 years of age?

Yeah, my fill rates are averaging around 3%.
Over Christmas they were around 30%...but that's just down to the fact that there would have been more active ad campaigns on the go.

iAds is only ever going to be as good as the clients they have using them for their ad campaigns.

As it stands at the mo, a 3$ fill rate is not going to generate you any meaningful revenue as an "ad displayer", unless you are getting hundreds of thousands of downloads a day, and lots of repeated play by those punters who have downloaded.

......and if you game/app is good enough for that to happen, you may as well have charged for it!

hmmm... not sure how worth it is gonna be, I'm just putting ads into Quake Builder now... seems quite easy to implement.. Almost too easy... ?...

Although I think sales may drop tomorrow, I had over 70,000 downloads yesterday.

So if my Maths is right, 3% of 70,000, at $0.01 an impression makes me $21 .... is that right?

Gonna put an ad on each level, so maybe will get a few more request... also fixing some bugs so players might hang around for a while...fingers crossed.

    @stormy

it depends how you do the ads.

If you just stick an iAd behaviour in your scene, it will sit there, and make a request for the life of that actor/scene.

if however, you spawn an iad actor into the scene that destoys itself after 25 seconds, every 30 seconds.....then every 30 seconds in theory you will get a request. (this is the way I have done it in a couple of apps, and the request rate is so much higher than the apps I have done it the other way in)

so you could quite easily up your request rate.

I'm not 100% sure if the request rate has a direct bearing on the fill rate or anything though. (anyone know?)

I think each of my levels is about 30 seconds anyway, then you'd reset and try again until you complete it and move onto the next level. So it should work about right.

Be interesting to know more stats on how iads works.

How many times a day are the iAd stats updated?
  • gazjmgazjm Member Posts: 578
    think it is hourly.

I use the method of spawning and destroying every 25seconds, Im not sure if apple can detect this though and only give out ads to apps that don't request so often, as advertisers wouldn't want an app appearing for a few seconds and have to pay.

But, How can I destroy an iAd, if is there only the Showiad behavior?
  • gazjmgazjm Member Posts: 578
the way i do it is,

I have an invisible actor called spawner. Every 30 seconds it spawns another actor call iad, this contains the show iad rule. In this second actor is also a timer which destroys the actor after 25 seconds, then 5 seconds later the spawner will spawn another iad actor.

I was thinking of going Pro and getting some Free versions out there with iAds. It sounds like it might take 2-3 years to return the investment.

Right now my app is doing $0-2 per day, looks like free with ads will not get me anything better...
