What's the rule on Forum Signatures

Considering I was told I couldn't use tags for tagging... what's the rule on these gigantic forum signatures that I'm starting to see. Is the GameSalad team OK with that? I have lots of stuff that I could add to the bottom of every one of my posts.

If signatures are permissible, perhaps a plug-in is a better idea...

This site should probably run on vBulletin. That would allow users to upload pictures, create profiles, blogs, it has a Content Management System and it's a solid forum. It's fairly inexpensive software too.

    Hey Photics,
sorry for a quick and harmless derail but I just want to thank you for mentioning that word the other day (which i took as a suggestion). I LOVE my forum! It's much better than the one I have on the wordpress page!

That was a GREAT idea (and i only have one/year)

    ciao :)

I think the signatures are fine but I dont like that they are copied when you quote someones post so a signaturge plugin would be nice.

Also no offense darren but I hate that you have images in yours I think it now takes the whole move the market place out of the forum thing away and instead puts it in every single thread since it draws attention away from the topic. I don't think You guys linking to your posts in the marketplace is no big deal though.
    Just don't like the pictures

    Thats my 2cents

Yep i agree, images should not be in a signature. Very distracting.

But signatures are a great way for use to get our msg across with out spamming the topics with marketplace threads.

    Just my 2 cents.

    cheers

I don't mind signatures, as long as there's a way to turn them off somehow!

I'm a little 'Switzerland' on this one. On the one hand I want Darren and Wayne to sell enough of their programs so they keep going and also don't have to charge too much per unit and if that is helped by the signature/images then no problem. I guess however it could lead to a free for all ... kind of like the templates for sale was/is becoming where everyone starts doing it.

Gamesalad help us out here .. this should be quick. Allow Darren/Wayne to have a big slot to the right of this posting area where they can inject promotion of their products so we can keep up to date enough that the sales go well. I know enough people are going to say .. hey what about me/him/her and whatever they are selling but really come-on we are all excited at another level for the tools that their bringing ... I saw an image for in code editing, optimization and grids ... these are higher level stuff than great graphics/templates etc.

IMHO of course. Besides there's a big waste of real-estate right there .. to my right!

I don't mind a sig line but listing every item for sale is a bit much, IMHO. How about a single link to that person's marketplace page, where you can see everything that particular person is selling.

And my use of adding my market place links is just a way for us to get something for all the help we give.

    :)

    That is a fair argument

exactly. I'd love to be able to turn off avatars as well, but at least nothing is animated! :)

I love the avatars ... but the messages are sometimes not worth reading so i'd like to turn those of if they contain certain keywords :)

While we are talking about signatures, ... all we have is hand written extension to our posts. This forum has no signatures implemented afik

I dont have an issue with the links but I gotta be honest saying it like that really kinda gives the impression you've got some resentment toward to community, and felling like the community owes you.

I'm not saying they don't, cause I personally have received some great help from you, but geez what is everyone here turning into.

We have QS going on about how everyones greedy for asking for in-app purchasing. But the latest attitudes of the big devs here, are really bringing it down a notch in my opinion and pushing the image that its all about the money.

I know you guys do this for a living. So to some degree it is for you, but man you guys have changed a lot over the last few months.

I'll finish this little rant with saying I think you guys have definitely don't a lot for the community and I see nothing wrong with what your doing or selling it's the attitudes you guys are bringing to the table thats giving it all a bad image IMO

I kind of like the signatures. I like easy links instead of having to go look for them. Plus, its great advertising.

I have nothing to sell so this is how my signature is

I personally dislike any image signatures, unless they are very small.

I feel even Darrens current signature is far too big, given that the images don't actually do anything (they link no where), and the same text is even written above them.

Something like tshirtbooth's, with 3-4 lines of text/links are fine.
Even better would be a 1 liner linking to a topic of all the persons stuff.

I think it is safe to say that if they start seeing things get out of hand, they will address it. If not, keep doing it.

I think it would be better if they did it officially though. That way, signatures could be updated. The plugin for bbPress should be an easy install.

I thought GameSalad was moving towards more open discussion. I think this is something that's easy to address...

    1) How does the GameSalad Team feel about signatures?
    2) What's the future of the forum? Is it staying on bbPress, or will the new web team be looking at new options?

I have done it for a week now and they have said nothing.

    They like you. :)

I think we all need to just start adding links all of our games and company sites and stuff to all posts. I bet they address it then.
