i have made a background in photoshop, saved using the save for web & device, the picture comes out at 70KB when i double click, looks great on full screen, import in GS,create a new actor set the size of that actor to 480x320 then put it on the scene, then go to my images drag and drop image to actor picture shows on the scene looks great, press preview still looks great, when i preview the image on my iphone 4 the image its self has a gradient and that gradient has lines running from left to right where the colour gradient changes any idea guys
thanks

    Hi,

search the forums, quite a few ppl have had this problem

    http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=13550#post-104685

Also, as a side note, can anyone tell me why this is happening, are the images compressed when exporting to iphone, and if so, is there an option anywhere to 'not' compress certain images ?

and.... as a side note, can anyone post an example of the an icon that has been created automatically by the gamesalad software, I want to view a side by side comparison of the original image and it's icon variant sizes to see how gs handles the auto conversion ?

I'd do it myself, but I still don't own a MAC yet, managed to save up some cash, but looks like new macbook pros are just around the corner... :/

There's a bug in the graphics viewer game salad uses, the box2d thing i think.

What I do is add 1 or 2% noise to a background and t fixes it right up

So are the dev team going to fix this or just leave it as is ? I utilise Illustrator ( and gradients ) quite a lot in my everyday work and want my output to clean, I don't want to have to add noise to a image to make it work, surely a bugfix is in order, devs ?

Its not a gs issue, its a box2d issue, and the box2d team would have to issue a fix fro what i understand

hmm, surely if the devs are utilising the sdk, then they have access to all the code ? unless it's hardcoded into external files ? Oh, well, here's hoping that issue gets fixed. How come it only effects backdrops ? Not heard anyone else complain about foreground elements as yet.

also, is this only a problem on GS viewer on iphone 4? or on the actual apps downloaded from app store?

Yes it is still a problem. To Quote tshirtbooth…(this is the fix for that problem. it works great, i use it on all gradients.)

"Open your image with gradient in Photoshop

    Go to filters>Texture>Grain

    and in setting use

    intensity 4
    contrast 52

    and save

this will fix you right up :)"

    how about with Gimp?

This is a known issue of Photoshop and it's called Gradient Banding.
    The solution is simple

What about for Inkscape? I don't have Photoshop, too expensive.

Inkscape, I have no idea personally. Gimp has options for dithering and supersampling in gradient blends from what I understand, playing around with those settings should help, but I don't use Gimp or Inkscape.
