best way to change scene

What is the best way to change from one scene to another? I read on this forum and I saw that many people used a rule with each individual scene +1. I have a complex level complete screen and Im worried if I create some may rules for each actor it might become really slow. Would it be better to go ahead with the rules or just create a separate menu scene for each?

    Along with the discussion of what is the best way to change scenes - cool transitions are a very effective feature.

    I specifically have in mind - how do you fade out one scene while fading in the next - making it appear as if the are transforming from one to the other?
