Hey everyone.

My name is Ricardo, and im starting a new iphone game with two of my buddies.
One is a professional illustrator, and myself and the other are flash animators....

Basically we looking for the right platform to build our game in, as we have the concept of the game down on paper, and quite a bunch of concept art already.

Problem is that none of us no anything about coding games, or developing in java etc...

Is Game Salad the right way to go about this?

Basically, whats worrying me is the fact that, it seems one cant integrate mini cutscenes etc? Or am i wrong?

Secondly - If we create a character sprite (like the character breathing/moving while standing still), will we be able to transport this mini animation into Game Salad? Perhaps a png sequence?

And how is the performance once exported onto the iphone?
We have rendered out some png sequences of flames burning etc (all flash/vector)...will these render smoothly?

Thank you so much for all your answers..much appreciated guys
Cheers

Ricardo

Yes, Gamesalad might be the right tool for you.
No, you can't have cutscenes in GS yet.
Yes you can have animated charecters in GS.
The performance is OK, but not the best it really depend on the project.
Yes animations will render very smoothly.

    And welcome by the way.

    Cheers :D

    First of all welcome!

You can't make cut scenes properly but you can probably work around that right?
    A PNG sequence works.
Depends on how big the game is but there are so amazing games such as MiniCannon and RunningWild which have loads of levels and everything is rendered smoothly!

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

FreiGames basically wrapped it up for you. You can make you own cutscenes with animations, no importing of movie clips or anything like that though.

    Welcome!

    Hey Frei...thanks for the comment.

Basically we needed a cutscene when the game starts and at the beginning of each stage (about 5 seconds long).

Cant we use a png sequence for that? It will be about 120 images...not sure if that will drastically affect performance...

Do any of you guys know of a Game Salad game which has really pushed the boundaries in graphics for this platform? I was just keen on seeing what it can do...

That would not be good for the performance, but you can always try it out!
