hey guys another noob here. I started testing GS the past few days and I was wondering about what size should I use for making a universal game which can fit and display correctly on non-retina and retina displays.

I don't have a iPhone 4 yet so I can only test this on my 3Gs which is kind of a problem. If I wanted to fit my game for both types of display, then should I:

A) create a 320 x 480 game, then tick RI;
B) create a 640 x 960 game, then tick RI;
C) create a 320 x 480 game, then do not tick RI;
D) create a 640 x 960 game, then do not tick RI;

Which one a is the right way?

Also I get the power of 2 thing but not about the size for actors to display correctly on both screens. Let's say I have an actor at 250 x 250 which I saved from AI. Should I insert the actor in the scene at 125 x 125, 250 x 250, or 500 x500?
I just want them to appear right as I do t have an iPhone 4, its like I'm betting on my game without seeing it work.

Please help me out, noob I know but only because I'm new. Sorry.

    Create a 320x480 game with RI checked.

    All your graphics need to be double the size of your actor, so for example, you will need a 640x960 image for your 320x480 background actor.

    Keep in mind that all your graphic files will be doubled in order to scale down the graphics to support non-retina devices so the final file size will increase when compiled.

    Ok so I guess I started on the wrong foot as I've resized my game to 960x640, and checked RI. Now I need to resize and reposition everything!

    But I still need to ask more noob questions. Sorry I really need to clear this up it's in my head for a couple of days now. So let's say my game is 320x480, and my background graphic is 640x960, do I need to resize my actor size on the scene to fit the 320x480 view? Or I just leave the 640x960 image centered? I mean how does the iPhone 4 work is it just increasing the boundary or is it actually stretching the whole game, including actors?

    If I get it right, then my actor graphic at 250x250 will be a 125x125 actor in the scene. Then it will be 125x125 on non-retina displays, and 250x250 on retina displays? Is this correct?

    1)DO NOT make your actor 640x960. You make your image 640x960 and then insert that image into your 320x480 background actor. So yes, your background actor is sized at 320x480 fitting the iPhone screen while using the 640x960 background. All this is doing is it's doubling the pixels so the image will look great on retina display devices

    please do a search, this has been discussed to DEATH over the past few days, it's even part of the FAQ at the top of the page:

    How do you make a game using resolution independence?

    Check the checkbox on the Project Editor for iPhone resolution games.
    Use images that are twice the size of what you need.
    Develop the game as if it was for lower resolution games(480x320).
    That's all.

    I feel Your pain jon.

    I remember back in the Day my dad would be driving and get pissed at others driving like idiots and go on about "if I were god, I'd…"

    I get that feeling every time I see these redundant posts "If I we're a Sous-Chef, I'd…" LOL
