Space Flyer - Never ending scrolling gameplay

Hi guys.

Here is our first template for you.

It's a never ending scrolling avoid-em-up game, much in the same vein as "Volcanic Airlines"

You control a ufo with the touch screen. Wherever you touch, that's where the ufo appears to be heading.
Avoid the rocks : The rocks will slow you down, and let the "ANOMALY" catch up to you. Once you are in the anomaly, your shields will begin to drain. When your shields are at 0....it's game over man!

Here is a very brief video of it in action :

-------

One of the most frequent questions we are asked is "How did you make Doodle Ski scroll forever?"

This template is designed to show how you can make a never ending type of game, that appears to be a scroller that goes on forever.
In reality, the scene is only 2 screens wide, and it's the objects and backgrounds that move, not the player actor.

It also shows how to simulate dynamic movement using the touch screen to move and rotate the player actor.

We have also thrown in a simple way of doing parallax scrolling, some retina graphics, and a bit of sci-fi music by me (Mark/S-Scape Studios).

In the template you will find :

An "infinite" type of game using a small scene size and moving objects to simulate a never ending scrolling level
A parallax scrolling technique using a layered moving background (simple cheat parallax)
Touch controls, with rotation towards the touch, with the speed affected if you turn too sharply
3 Different sizes of rock to avoid, and a spacial anomaly chasing you
Scoring using a timer, hi-score setting, and saving/loading
Giving your player actor energy, and having that energy taken away
How to show a loading graphic between scenes
Using scene layers for one actor to control another (moving the loading graphic onscreen when you hit a button)
Playing music on a scene, but not on another
Tested at 60fps on my 3GS

A lot of the techniques used in the template can be used for other types of "Infinite avoidance" style games. Dodging cars, Skiing, flying pigs on the run from giant roosters.....you get the idea.

There is a simple title screen with a start button, (The button has a little touch effect on it, just as a reminder that the player needs feedback when they are touching your buttons. There are a lot of games out there that seem to forget that fact), and a simple game over, showing your score and hi-score.

Priced pretty nicely at $40, so not going to break the bank there.

you can click the link below to buy it.

Thanks for reading, and if you buy the template, and get something out of it, post a reply here and let others know how useful you found it.

Thats a good one! A LONG time ago I have been planing to create a similar gameplay game, but have other projects in the list for my graphic designer.
Maybe you could add monster, powerapps and some more stuff to make it more attractive, but it DEFINETLY worth 40 bucks!

I Think I Will but it! but not yet! need to finish some projects!
    Wish you Luck with sales!

    Cheers.

Here is a short video of the final v1.0 in action

I forgot to say in the initial post, the speed of the rocks is controlled by a global variable, that is set to speed up over time so the game gets harder the longer you play.
You could also use that global variable to set the speeds of pretty much anything that's "coming at you" in the game, be that rocks, or bad guys, or even the speed of the scrolling backgrounds.

Also, if you buy it, you will obviously get free updates to the template, and we will be taking requests for stuff to add. Nicolas has already mentioned getting some bad guys in there, but we would love to get some ideas from you guys as to what to get in the newer versions.

Should have a few more templates available soon too. :o)

    Thanks.
I hope you find it useful.

Like I said in the first post, the techniques used can be adapted to different game styles. :o)
