Background/Gameplay Problem

I'm working on a game where a car keeps driving down a road forever until you die, so I made a background and made the scene have Y wrap and change the velocity of the background so it looks like the car is moving where the background actually is, so it would take up less space and to have an easier time programming some things in later. You can also shoot stuff out of each side of the car, but when you do, it doesn't look like the car is moving anymore since the bullet stays lined up with the car. (Does this make sense or am I just babbling?)

The question I have is if there is a way to make it look like the the car keeps moving and the bullet stays behind? or am I going to need to make the scene be very very very tall and just keep adding more and more backgrounds to it?
