Think outside the box contest game- ADVENTURE GAME / BOOK? (perhaps)

So for this new outside the box contest, I am HOPING to create a type of adventure/platformer/book app. It would be loosely based upon the adoption of my little sister. Maybe you could play as her, going through the world in her eyes, like how she got adopted, etc. It would kind of be like the game Braid for the Mac, but it would have a story behind it. I'm hoping for it to kind of flow from sad to happy, dark to light, and also my sister would get older as time passes. If everything goes like planned it will be an awesome and inspirational app!! Let the game building commence!!!

I've decided that it will be an iPad-only style app. It will be a mix between a platformer and a book. My artist is currently showing me some designs he has in mind. My mother (the writer) is currently writing different pages for the story. I don't know if I'll be able to finish by next week, but I'll give it a try!!!

I believe I'm going to title my application Pearl's Adventures (or Pearl's Journey), because it is about the adoption of my younger sister Lily... It will have aspects of it for little children, teens, and adults to enjoy.

I think it's a great subject for the game, and an interesting way of presenting it. Nice one.

One day I will get round to making something based on stuff that happened to me. Unfortunately, it's the saddest story I've ever told, so the natural reaction is to run away from it!

    Good on you, I say!

Yeah same with me... my little sister grew up in China... I won't spoil the story, but I can say that you play as my little sister, who grows as the story progresses, and it also go's from a dark and gloomy setting to a much lighter and happier one... If it turns out like what I want it too, it should be really good, but who knows... The best way, QS, for you to get over your sad story is not to keep it built up inside you. My mom felt the same way about this... obviously I won't say everything about where she grew up and how it was, but the parts I will tell will be lifted away from our minds, knowing that other people will know what she went through. Hopefully it will attract more people to adoption, but who knows.. If you need anyone to talk to QS, I could help you out :)

Oh, I'm sure it'll be a hugely cathartic experience to make it into a game!

I just want it to be a good game, too!

I wish you the best with yours, and I think you should be applauded for dealing with a 'different' subject than you might normally find in a game.

    I'm looking forward to it!

Thanks a lot, like I said, I want to take some time on it to make it the best I can make it. The book / game would sort've be like the Mac game Braid (art wise, maybe), but with a story to go along with it.
