hmmm ... a "third smaller" means a new screen size to deal with. Don't we have enough already?
Yesterday I started working on an app for the iPad and I'm using the 960 x 640 images i've made for the phone.
Couldn't help thinking that if apple made the ipad 960x640 (which is probably close to the new samsung thing (just a guess)?) how much faster it would be.

Then again, I'm locked in with a 3 year contract ... i probably have a heart attack before that term is over

They may do a small iphone but I highly doubt it would be capable of apps and such. The iphones screen size is the smallest I would ever want to play games on but still a good size. I would bet if they did a smaller iphone it would be more like the new nano that has a touch screen with apps on it but they would be preset stuff that comes with it. basically just a very nice looking mp3 playing phone. And honestly I doubt they would go with that since it is really a step backwards as far as mobile devices go. IMO

I don't think Apple will reduce the size for a less expensive phone.
The iPhone has kept it's size intact since the original.

If the 3Gs were priced at $200 then it would easily be the market leader for this price bracket. This would leave a clear distinction with the iPhone 4 and 5 with their Retina screens, superior camera and dedicated apps.
