I need to ask as many people as possible to test my timer app on your idevices

Hi all, following on from an earlier post found here: http://gamesalad.com/forums/topic.php?id=17129 I have built a test app that I need your help with.

The issue is that in building a reaction-time based game I have found out that all devices handle timers differently, with some older devices unable to handle particularly small increments.

I have therefore built a mini test app which runs a whole host of timers on screen counting at 1 seconds, 0.1 seconds, all the way down to 0.001 seconds. I need to ask as many of you as possible to take the time to run the app on your device and report back your findings. This way I can assemble a chart that the community can use to find out the smallest timer increment that can be used on specific devices.

It is possible for example that for my game I will then use Tshirtbooths method for figuring out the users device to disable the smaller timers on older devices.

Full instructions are included in the app, however all you need to do is press the start button and watch the timers to see which ones go out of sync with the main 1 second timer.

If anyone is interested could you please PM me your email address and I'll send you the gamesalad file to try. Then when you're done please post your results here a bit like this:

Device: gamesalad preview mode on Mac Mini (you will put iphone 3gs, 4g, ipad, etc.)

1 Sec Timer: Pass
0.1 Sec Timer: Pass
0.05 Sec Timer: Pass
0.04 Sec Timer: Pass
0.03 Sec Timer: Fail
0.02 Sec Timer: Fail
0.01 Sec Timer: Fail

Many thanks to anybody who takes a few minutes to do this, it will be a great help to me and also I'm sure the rest of the community.

That's strange if it alters from one test to the next on your mac. But I probably didn't make myself clear enough in the first place, I'm after people to test it on their actual device (ipod, iphone etc) using the gamesalad viewer. This is the only way to know how a final product will work on each different idevice. I think that running it on the mac is only an simulation of how the final product will run.

Actually for something like this, the viewer wont give you the most accurate results. It can still be completly different on the actual build then the viewer. You gonna need to do adhoc builds to get the most accurate depiction of the final product

That's a shame I didn't realise that. I suppose the option is still there if people want to make a build of it, but i presume that would be more time consuming for them to do. Still if anybody wishes to test an actual build in the name of progress they have the option to.

Yes do an adhoc and the put in on testflight and send the testflight file to my email... Same one i sent you before ( i have a 3gs)

I'm afraid that's something I can't do yet as I'm only in the process of registering as an ios developer now. Apologies if this thread has been a waste of time, I thought testing on the device with the gamesalad viewer would give concrete results.

Thanks simo, it seems to fail after 0.04 on my mac, but obviously this doesn't equate to a final build. It was a good idea in theory :-)
