Should I get an android tablet or the next iPad?

I saw the new galaxy tab 10.1 today, and I gotta say, I'm impressed. I really want a tablet in the future, but because I want a tablet for music production and web, and android doesn't have that many good apps for music production, and I really might consider getting the next iPad. I want to also develop for either one also. What should I get when it comes out?

    you just answered your question!

Get both because you NEED TO test your apps before you release :)
Also, I assume you are aware that you need to pick up another "tool" to develop for other platforms.

If GS is all you use, than the the iPad :)

Yeah, but I really want the devices more because I produce for alot of upcoming hip-hop artists, and I use The beatmaker series of apps. I can't afford both, but I'm leaning to iPad 2 because it has more music apps...oh yeah, I can build games for it too :P

I just happened to "accidentally" walk by .... actually, I went in to Best Buy and saw a new device from Acer running on W7!
The screen was much larger than the one on my iPad and the few touch features I tried responded great!

I am very happy that more and more such gadgets surface because they make playing certain instruments a lot of fun!

If you can, wait a bit and see what sells in large quantities ... that always pays off because companies will support such devices a little longer plus, there is more third party support as well :-)

I hear you ... waiting is not fun but let me tell you a story ....

about 20 years ago i was in the market for a new keyboard and a friend of mine advised me to wait for an amazing "soon-to-be" released model by Roland that would combine three in one and put everything else out there to shame. The unit was called Roland W30.
I bout one and if recall this correct, it was a little over $3000.

Korg also made a model for $2600 which was available NOW!.
It was called M1 and didn't have half the features. In a side by side comparison, the Roland was the BETTER sounding one so naturally, I went for that one.

The lesson for me was this:

Roland did not sell large numbers and in no time, a new model surfaced with was the "new" must have machine, called D70.

Years later I had a chat with the Korg rep and he told me that Korg planned to sell 20000 M1's world wide. After the dust had settled, the final number was 200000! The model was a success and if you comb craigslist, you can still find the now dinosaur second hand every once in a while.

What ever you buy, buy what "most" people by! There will be third part support and the maker will think twice about abandoning the product early.
iPad owners got a iOS 4.2 upgrade for zero which was nice!

What ever comes and is already on the market has to measure up to the ipad. Maybe (i am guessing here) the new version (iPad2) will not outsell the original? Who knows.
My ipad does a lot as it is and i'm happy to test my apps which is something that i will always have a need for.

The (original) iPad will be around for years to come ....

100% iPad 1 if you don't want to wait and iPad 2 if you want to.

My friend got the Galaxy and it sucks (big time), he tried to sell it and nobody wants to pay more than $150 for it (try to sell a used iPad and it will fly out of your hands). As for windows - don't go there, period.

iPad just works out of the box with many useful apps, both Andorid and Windows can't match up. Don't be fooled by tech specs, the simple fact is that you need the horsepower to run Andorid/Windows while iOS is much lighter.

Why buy the 2nd best if you can get the real thing?

Android is garbage. EsPeCiALLY for music. iOS has almost no latency. While androids is horrible. Coming from a hiphop/music producer I can assure u that iOS is the way to go. When I'm not using GarageBand im on nanostudiO on my iPhone or music studio on the iPad. I can even record my vocals using fourtrack. . The galaxy tab is another wanna be iPad. It's not fanboyism it's fact. Androids audio interface is inferior to iOS. Not to mention iOS doesnt get viruses. Doesn't crash like crazy like android. It's not fragmented. No "force closes". And more music apps that u can think of. Funfact: here here I live (Miami beach) most clubs are using iPads and iPhone to mix music on the fly? Can u believe that?! that's crazy lol plus idevices have longer life span. Androids get replaced literally every month. It's garbage but if u really believe a 7 inch premature platform tablet will do u good then by all means go ahead, but from one producer to another, stuck with the better and more stable and supported platform. :)

The current latest version of Android is 2.3. That is what is running on the latest Google phone.

The Galaxy Tab runs v.2.2 - and it is not powerful enough to run 2.3.

So you'd be forever stuck with the old firmware.

I would wait for the iPad.

Yup. I'll just wait then.I just hope the new iPad has SD card or USB 2.0 ports.

I personally wouldn't buy an Android tablet until Honeycomb 3.0 is available. I think that will make a huge difference in the UX on their tablets. Until then, I'd wait for the iPad 2...
