It's time to move on...

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
I will be sending the guys at GS a mail tonight asking them to revoke my Sous Chef status because i no longer want to be a part of the forum no longer want to offer free help and won't be answering the many help me mails (all for free i might add) yes I'm so driven by money i spend at least 2-3 hours a day helping members...sorry for the sarcasm.

I've had a great time here over the past year but I'm just too busy to be part of the forum set up and get involved in silly arguments.

It's turned sour on here for me over the last week or 2.

The templates have done very well for us and i thank you all for the support but it wasn't long before everyone and his dog started doing them and i no longer need or am willing to be involved on the GS forums when people are making a quick buck selling crap and slating me for making decent ones.

My platform template has sold 150 copies for a reason, i worked bloody hard on it!

Anyway i hope you remember the good times like i will...

Some of the things i "think" i bought to the table were:

The instant restart idea used in Bumps

GS's 1st hit with Bumps another with Goo.

Recycle actors in the shooter template.

Tools myself and Wayne worked on and probably a bit more.

Tons of help to new members.

But with the highs comes the lows...

People trying to make money from our tools.

I saw a member needing help, i was knackered after the usual 12 hour day but stayed up to make a video for him as it's easier sometimes only to find some guy taking the piss out of my voice via a post that had nothing to do with him.

Then there's the templates some love em some are very jealous someone said i could sell !@#$% in a bag and it would sell.

The current fall out.

Abusing my Sous Chef status.

And loads more little snips here and there that have been building up.

At the end of the day there seems to be some members hell bent on bringing me down...I'm 40 years old and tired of all the crap.

Myself and Wayne will still be doing the business over at DeepBlueIdeas so drop by and say hi from time to time.

I'm sure Wayne will still be on posting updates but I won't be around from tonight.

Good luck guys and most of all have fun making, learning about and selling your games.

Darren.

Good luck to you, Darren. I know for one your posts have helped me considerably, and I'm sorry to see you go. It's a shame that forum drama has led you to this. I'll be dropping by to say hello, and I plan on picking up a few of the tools you created from your website. Take care.

This is sad I definitely think you have helped many, many people and created some of the best GS tools.

You have also inspired many forum members including me to keep going on creating games.
So good luck with your games and I hope you keep making the great tools you make

    Bye, Weswog
  • Hey Darren

I don't really post that much but I've noticed the little snips you and some others have been receiving and it is unfair. However I think what you have to remember there is a lot of people like me who just lurk and don't really post. For example if you look at an article on IGN like 70% of the maybe 100 comments are saying " this reviewer is bias and is an idiot" ect but the review is being read hundreds of thousands of times and the rest people didn't have a problem with it. Theres a silent majority that i'm pretty sure behind you and if I was you I would think about if you really do want to leave of it is maybe just a spur of the moment thing. You generally seemed like the voice of reason in many threads and i think i speak for most people when I say, you and your products will be missed.

Wow! I am deeply saddened by this. I really hope that this didn't happen just because of the volume slider incident. But it looks like you have your reasons. I really don't want you to go but that is your decision. Your templates and products and most importantly your help on these forums are as always top notch and I want to personally thank you for everything you've done for me. Thanks Darren, you will be missed. :(

Sorry to see you leave Darren! Your posts are always some that I've looked forward to the most when browsing through the forums, your videos have always been greatly enjoyable and useful, and I would be lightyears behind where I am now without your tools and templates. It certainly won't be the same without you.

Wow... Darren, you were a great member and a great person as far as I can say.. It is sad to see you decided to move on, but, at the same time, angry. Not to you, but to all of us.

We should have seen this coming. This is what happens when a community gets crowded. It becomes polluted. A lot of unnecessary people talking !@#$% about the things they don't know. Talking !@#$% at the most valuable members like you and few others.

Guys, this community is falling apart... Remember how things were 8-9 months ago, and, look how it is now..

And Darren, good luck with everything, really..

Best of luck. I'm a huge fan of your games (pretty sure I've bought all of them). I am also finishing up a game that I plan to port to ipad and mac so I will definitely be buying more deep blue tools in the next few days. Wish you would reconsider.

About the time you spend on email - I would be interested to know if it is time you are spending with customers who have questions about specific elements in the templates they bought from you or just questions about GS in general.

If people are emailing folks like Darren and TSB all the time for random help I wish we could just keep it on the forum. When information is shared on the forum we can all learn from it. When it is done through email it keeps more people in the dark which then means more people need to email the "top dogs." This is not directed at darren (or TSB) but rather those who are sending the emails. I wish all of this could at least start on the forum and if an email or skype is necessary than so be it.

Anyways (I digress) I hate to see you go.

    Take care.

best of luck, I'll be keeping an eye on DeepBlueIdeas.

I really think this community took a HUGE hit when they dropped the price of GS for free. there are a lot of people who are expecting the world after paying nothing.

I hope they reinstate the $99 express $499 pro membership as soon as possible to clean out the weeds in the garden.

I was so sad when I read this forum post. Darren you have been a tremendous help to myself and countless other members on the forum. Your wisdom, generosity, and assistance will be greatly missed. I wish there was something I could say to talk you out of leaving, but it seems you are pretty dead set on leaving, so I guess this is good bye. Thanks again for all the fantastic tools you and Wayne have developed for this community, I hope those don't stop, and I will defiantly be purchasing new releases. I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Very sad to hear this. Darren you been a great help to us all, and I love what your doing with your products. Not sure what went down but don't let the idiots get to you. Sooner or later their attitudes will be revealed for what they really are. Petty, jelous, self-righteous nobodies. Once the lights are turned on they will scatter to their cracks and holes.

You've always been considered a friend to the community, a friend to the ones who want to learn and humble us with your never-ending generosity. Please keep in touch and let us know how it's going. I'll be watching for your emails and product updates and be visiting your site often. Hope this isn't goodbye but if it is, a big thanks for all the help.

You were one of the nicest people to work with when I was making trailers for the community.

You have made a huge impact on the forum, and are leaving an equally huge impact with your departure :'(

We'll definitely miss you Darren, good luck with everything!

Thank you for all the help you've given me (even if you didn't know it) Over the few months I have been here. Good luck on you're next endeavors and I hope you may continue to post here even if the posts are sparse. Anyway, thanks again and I wish you luck on your next apps.

Well I do more reading/learning on this forum than posting because I'm not knowledgeable enough in GS to help at the moment, but I must say Darren, you are awesome. I've read many of your posts and you know what you're talking about and you're nice. Thats usually a rare combination. I wish you wouldn't depart but I do understand that middle school drama or whatever was going on can be annoying and a waste of time. Hopefully you'll come back after a while and contribute. Good luck on your future endeavors.

it is indeed a sad day on the GS forums... We have lost one of the greatest designers and a real pioneer for the GS community.

Daren, you will indeed be missed.

Thank you for all your contributions to the GS forums and community. I may be a small-time designer with almost nothing under my belt, but I appreciate everything you've done for me

But, but... You are the best! It is very sad to see you go... Please keep making cool templates ( they are so cool!). I am sorry for any harm done by any member ( you know people can be frustrating at times) please do come back and maybe just post now and then. Thanks, john (aka <><)
