Ok , idk if any other people have noticed this but there are so many people on the forums that like to flat out DISS people

For example when a person makes a post talking about a new game he's made

Why would u go and diss him?

Why do u think Darren left, Darren left because of people like that.

If you have nothing nice to say
JUST SHUT UP

Comments

Diss him? Or offer an opinion on a game?

Just search YouTube for gamesalad reviews for an impression of what people think all gamesalad games are like. This is what we are up against and unfortunately republished templates with no care taken to make an actual game from them is driving our collective credibility into the ground.

Perhaps because it's a highly competitive market and jealously often gets the better of people. You just gotta roll with the punches and not have thin skin about what some anonymous person in the web says about your stuff.

You guys need to stop dragging darren into every post. He left cause he wanted to. End of story

and if you dont want to here negative comments or feedback, dont post about your new game then.

    On a related note...

I think it might be more helpful if when commenting on other peoples games, were were COMPLETELY honest about it.

That's one way to make sure everyone is doing the best work possible...which in turn should go some way to improving the perception of games made with GS.

I know a lot of the time...just because we are all in the same field of indie development, it's all too easy to say "Yeah. looks good mate"

You can be honest, without being rude though......

And also, on the other hand, we need to be gracious in taking the honest comments that might come.

Absolutely. If someone has something to say about one of my games, I want to hear it with no holds barred. Straight honest truth, if it sucks to you, then I want to know why. Thats the same approach I take If I comment on someones app.

I agree honest comments are good

But why would u bring the persons intelligent down?

Let's say Ur a genius at gamesalad
The other person is a newbie , just think when u first joined gamesalad

Sure make comments to help the person but why would u want to make him look dumb and stupid?

That just drives people away from the forums

this just may be some peoples goal
But constructive must be the key word in mind when making comments. I'll say that as we keep getting better the old levels of quality and such which we thought were awesome are now remedial and the newbies have way more to live up to as well as us old schoolers.

Some people are better teachers than others. On the same note, some people are better learners than others.

Not everyone is good at communicating their issues. Some people are not good at understanding issues. Ultimately, the vast majority of people on these forums try to help each other. Only a small handful actually make things bad for people.

The sous-chefs do a nice job of controlling the forums and deleting/closing posts which get mean or abusive.

Also, some people are not good at game design, and sometimes constructive criticism is completely necessary. However, gentle criticism is not everyone's forte...

Half the problem is that peoples learning projects end up on the AppStore. The reason being because of the lure of a bit of quick cash. Ultimately if kids wanted to learn game logic and programming then they would use software like Scratch. But there is no money in making games in scratch. I do actually try to be constructive in criticisms and have an iTunes account full of other peoples GS games that I buy. While templates are cool (my next game is built off a template, kinda) it lowers the barrier to entry even further. Swapping a couple of graphics out is all that's needed. What eminem mentioned above about everyone starting out somewhere is true, but I didn't publish my first experiments as games cos they .... were crap. My wife has just started learning GS and made a game a couple of days ago, however she says herself that she wouldn't publish it. She was proud of what she did and the learning process but knows that she need to learn more before she can make a competitive game.

Well put StusApps I'm on my 10th "game" after only a few months of using GS but only one in the app store(next one is in review) Now even a month later I feel I could have done my first app much better.

There's an old saying for game developers..."Your first 10 games are gonna suck, so get them out of the way as quick as possible."

i like how the essence of this thread is that dissing people sucks, then he goes on to diss people who diss.
