Best way to go about images?

I plan on having a very big level in my game width in the thousands are far as size goes for GS creator.

I was wondering, would it be best for performance if I just made one large image, or had multiple smaller images?

    Thanks man. Although Idk how decent my project will turn out. As of now its just an idea that I found from a web game. Idk how far I will take it for now just working some things out.

    actually its 1024x1024 but it is probably best to use smaller tiles
