Hello all! I'm wet behind the ears I'm embarking on a voyage to navigate the GS lingo and tools. This looks like a fun group, and I'm excited to join!
I'd like to make an iPhone game that stars a hero firefighter jumping from the firefighter's trampoline to save residents from the fuming perils of high-rises aflame. I have yet to learn about how to access graphics, sound & music royalty free, so if anyone has good suggestions (or things to avoid) I'm all ears.
I love the name GameSalad! I love salads, but gamers are notorious junk food eaters. Are gamers turning over a new leaf here?

Now having said that i think most here are still junk food eaters except for one certain sheep, I suspect he eats leafs or at least something green! :P

Free things... (alas many things are free for personal use ... not commercial!)
you can take pictures of things and use them...
you can draw on your devices and email to yourself...
you can draw on paper and scan into your computer..
you can make your own music and sounds...
--or about a thousand free sounds (some need creator crediting)

Wiki Commons has many Public Domain images plus some free-use with credit to creator.
I usually don't do in-depth graphics... just placeholders (correct size)... till I get the code done.
(Though colorScheme is one of the first things I do do!)

The above is a list I put together some time back; openclipart and cooltext (the lesser is for graphics while the latter is for buttons and text) are awesome, but the whole list is good
Welcome to GameSalad! A lovely first post
I love salads, too!
And, I agree with Jon, the GS wiki has a link on the right hand side called Sprites & Sounds. It's pretty much links to sites that have either free or cheap music, sounds, and artwork for your games.
Also, if you really want to splurge, you can put an add out on craigslist and find some starving artists and musicians to fill the gap between what you're good at and what you suck at (in my case, I can't even draw stick figures and I don't know the white keys from the black ones on a keyboard) :-)
Good luck!
Welcome to the 'Salad!
Those traditional gamers, old dinosaurs like me into junk food, are still important of course. But the salad people are taking over!

I guess I'll soon figure out what stickies are, and what free sprites I should use, which I should pay for, and what I'll need to hire for.

Good call MH, I was headed down that path too.
Love the clip QS!
BTW I like junk food too (I'm not an alien)...but I will admit, after Anatomy and Nutrition classes in college and seeing what junk food does to your body... I must say burgers never tasted the same. Maybe I should have taken the blue pill
