The GameSalad game contest will start on:
Friday 11th of March 2011

HOW LONG
It will go on for 3 weeks and final submissions must be in on April the 2nd.

THE THEME
The theme will be announced on the start date. (morning 'London GMT' Time)

PRIZES
Please donate more prizes, let me know what your offering either via this thread or email me at sales@stormystudio.com

Prises so far:
Winning game gets:
- a professional Promo video
- Some Music CDs from Scitunes and his band
- $15 itunes voucher from simo103

RULES
Every developer taking part will have to run their own thread detailing their progress. With 'TOTB2' included in their threads title.

Their game must some how be based around the 'theme' given.

They must have either a video showing the game working, or have it submitted and approved on the app store by the closing date.

Final video can be posted to the official contest launch thread (which I'll create on the start date).

JUDGING
The final games that have a completed game at the end of the contest, will be entered into a poll on this forum and voting will be carried out by the Forum users over 1 week. The winner is the one with the most votes.

ARE YOU TAKING PART?
Please post if you are taking part, and let me know what you think. I'm making it 3 weeks this time to allow for more time to spend on each area of game development. Ideas, gameplay design, maths, sound, rules/code, graphics and a big load of polish. Hopefully the competition will bring out some excellent game ideas and create some interesting threads on game development.

I think I'll be too busy for this one, but would like to offer a prize. Thinking something useful to a game developer I would like to offer a 'Kanvus light 64' drawing tablet as a prize. I use the 12 inch version of it and it's fantastic. Obviously it will be a brand new one.

Best I post it from Hong Kong to the winner, although I can send it somewhere first if you like.

I think it would be awesome if the theme was freestyle, letting us do anything that comes to mind.

    Double post, sorry

@Artonskyblue... the last contest had no theme (it just had to be an original game idea) and people complained saying they wouldn't take part unless there was a theme...So there's a theme this time. The theme will be relaxed enough that you could make a lot of varied gameplay ideas for it...it just stops people getting a head start.

I can just start on this after March 21...

    Wanting the results from TOTB1!

@Riffel...If you can start on the 21st that would be great. Going by how cool you're game was ('ClayMoon') for the first comp it will be great again. also I'll try and chase Yodapollo to get round to judge the first contest...(I'll give it a few days if nothing happens I'll set up a poll to decide)...

Edit: Actually Riffel, I'll set the poll up today...I want to know who wins...

(@CBT...got your message...good luck in the voting poll)

    ....

I'm hoping I can get my 'Escape Artist' game completed so I can make something for this competition too. Not sure how everyone would see it if I actually entered something since I'm setting up the contest. But I'll join in and make something anyway and maybe just not put it in the running for the prizes...

Of course, I live in Hong Kong so I figure whoever wins I'll be sending it somewhere overseas.

Definitely needs some more promotion! The prizes are fantastic and very generous of everyone. I don't know about the new thread for every entry though, could clog up the forum a little.

Hopefully I'll be able to get something together this time around although I can't be sure. Can't wait to hear the theme.

Also, I think it's great that you're putting in so much effort to get these going, definitely deserves more recognition.

"Not sure how everyone would see it if I actually entered something since I'm setting up the contest."

No complaints here. You're as open to the whims of the forum as the rest of us.

@RH...More promotion would be great, I was hoping to get the competition yellow stickied...but no replies from the powers that be. You could be right about all the threads cloggin up the forum... But I think (hope I'm right) it's the sort of stuff the forum should be full of. Peoples game developments and questions, pictures, videos of games in the making etc. It might actually be a good read for most users rather the 'I'm leaving', 'this sucks', 'GS should make it do this' posts we had lots of over the last couple of months.

At the same time I can see it might be annoying if you just want a question answered for you own development...Maybe everyone can just post their deveopement updates all in one big thread?

What do people think would be best?

Individual threads for each game, or one bit thread...
  • ValanValan Member, BASIC Posts: 410
I vote individual threads. That way I can follow the games I am interested in and see updates easier.
  • StormyStudioStormyStudio United KingdomMember Posts: 3,989
Cheers for the vote Valen. Any other opinions?

Should be a great contest as long as we have enough people taking part. There are some great prizes...

Not heard anything from tshirt, or QS who last time said they would take part with more notice?
