I'm sure this has been asked many a time, But it's time for a refresher, dunno what might be out now.

I can't afford PhotoShop.

Suggestions?

I've Tried Gimp, Photoline and Pxen so far.

    Inkscape, it's pretty good, but it's missing a few crucial things.

    Pixelmeter? i'll give it a go!

    Anymore guys?

    I would try sumopaint.com

    It is a free online painting program modeled after Photoshop.

    Inkscape is awesome. Gimp is good (which you already know by this thread) and I have yet to try out sumo paint...

    I use Seashore quite a bit. It's a smaller version of Gimp designed especially for Apple. It doesn't have all the features, but it is easier to use than Gimp and perfect for some quick layering, etc.

    I like Seashore too, but the one thing I hate is that the paint feature leaves blank splotches around the blending of lines.

    @ozboybrian

    Are you a student by chance?
    If you are, you can get a student discount and get things a WHOLE lot cheaper.

    Ya, I love the discounts, but what programs can you get them with?

    I got all of the adobe programs for 600 bucks. Um, I got all of the autodesk programs for FREE just for being a student(autodesk is like maya, 3ds max, ect.) And Im sure there is more.

    Inkscape. I've never used Adobe Illustrator, so I don't know how it stacks up, but there's pretty much nothing you can't do in Inkscape. Some more shading options would be nice but that's about the end of my complaints.
