Help needed - max number of enemies on screen

Hey, I'm setting up my new game and I'm stuck on how to do this:

I want to have a maximum number of enemies on the screen at once. How would I go about setting this up?

I'm sure I seen it somewhere before but I've been searching for ages and I'm not having much luck.

in it's simplest form, just create an attribute called enemies & anotherone called maxenemies
then when you spawn a enemy, just increase enemies by 1
when an enemy dies, decrease it by 1

and in your spawnner, create a rule so it only spawns if enemies is less than maxenemies
