Should I just go and buy the old ipad model? £100 cheaper...

Ok, so I'm thinking maybe I'll go and buy the old ipad...its £100 cheaper and still pretty damn cool.

Why do I actually want one?
I want it so I can make GameSalad games for it. Watch videos and browse the internet.

I'm not overly bothered by the cameras, or the cool cover. I can take photos with my iphone, and I can buy a case if I want one.

I can stream video from my laptop to it when ios 4.3 comes out. So can get the model with the smallest hard drive and keep all my vids on my mac.

The only things to weigh up are:
is having 512 mb ram and an A5 chip gonna make any difference for what I want it for?

And will I be annoyed that its not 33% thinner?

    Yeah, I know your right...but I just got to the page where I simply have to enter my itunes account details and its mine...

    I guess its the fact that its cheaper...and I love a bargain...

    I'll just install my new drive in my laptop and just concentrate on my game for a few more weeks. Maybe that's the way to go, aim to finish my current game ready to start making one for the ipad...

    I'd actually go for it, stormy!

    If you end up making an iPad specific game, testing it on the 'base' model (ver.1) will ensure it works on all iPads.

    Well I went and bought the old model and am using it now. No regrets it's awesome.

    Already started on a very quick simply game for it. To start paying for it self .

    It will be the perfect test machine for me and a great facebook machine for my mrs

    good for you stormy... and the iOS upgrade will be out next week... so more things will work on your new toy!

    you just miss out on the cameras and weigh in at a couple of ounces more... and a little thicker....
    but you have the means of earning from iPad apps... and you will definitely enjoy your experiences with it...

    25th john lewis here i come,only problem is there not doing pre-sale so cue up super early to get my ipad 2,i got the missus version 1 but she wont let me use it for GS, so its about time i got my own

    US is $100 cheaper at Apple Store... refurbished (same warrantee) is $150 cheaper

    think the £100 discount is a good deal...
    16GB is great... and just plain WiFi... keep the price down and make the baby earn its keep.

    I'm not selling mine... everyone in the family has been buttering me up so I will gift them with it!
    maybe I will put it out as a one month loaner... and whoever treats me best gets it next month! :D

    @MH the one month loner idea is a great plan... everyone will turn into an angel.

    For those interested...

    I got my ipad (version 1) in the UK, brand new at a Currys/PCworld store. For £329 ...

    same price as on the Apple store, but then haggled them down on a case as they obviously need to shift the old style cases. So got a leather case for £10 instead of £25...

    It's great.

    Have installed Air Display, so I now have an extra monitor for my laptop and can show off with it at work walking around with my Mac Pro spotify account controlled on my touch screen ipad... (oh the envious glares how I laugh...)

    Also loving, BBC iplayer app, TED, and just everything...

    Get the old one now and then the new one on the 25th.
    I'm standing in line this Friday (11th) in the USA for the new one.
    Hope our Apple store gets lots of them in for the sale at 5pm.

    Just bought a 16GB original iPad for £270 from ebay - includes a leather case and dock chargy thingy.

    Now the waiting game begins! But at least I'll be able to properly test any iPad games I make!

    Quite excited! This and the Nintendo 3DS are my reward for making Air Supply!

    ok, so 3 weeks, on.

    I bought the old ipad, made an ipad app which is selling ok on the store, and should hopefully make around £500 by the end of the year.

    Played Super Bros. Sword and Scorery and loved it,
    Loved everything about the ipad...

    but money is money, so I've just sold my ipad to someone at my work for £270...

    So I'm already in profit now, with the money from the app...

    If and when I plan on making another ipad app in the future I will probably buy another ipad... just need to be richer...
