Noob questions

Hello, everyone!

I'm new at this and I have a few questions. (Actually more like a few million questions but I'm trying to focus.)

What is the protocol for using templates? I'm not talking about totally stealing someone's game, more reworking the free ones here? I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

For example, i doodled up this "mermaids playing starfish volleyball" sort of thing.

What kinds of things should I be learning? What are some easy things and what things are hard? Any advice would be most welcome, I'm working my way through the videos. Right now I'm stuck on getting the camera to follow the actor.

Thanks so much!

Marilyn.

Howdy! You can use the templates here, but not the art. And the videos are the best place to learn the basics and some advanced methods. There is a wiki page as well. http://www.gamesalad.com/wiki/

If you get stuck on something, you can search the forums and see if that topic has been discussed, and if it hasn't or it didn't solve your problem, then make a post, asking on the forums. The people here are very helpful.

And to make the camera follow an actor, just double click the actor, and drag the "control camera" behavior into it. There is an icon just below and to the left of the green play button with an arrow and a little camera. Click the camera, and you can adjust the camera controls to your liking. All the way closed will lock the camera tight on the actor.

Welcome to the forums, and I can't wait to see what you come up with!

    Hi there "thetoymaker",
by the looks of it, your amazing gfx talent combined with some of the advanced code you can find/get from templates should be a great match!

I look forward to those mermaids whackin' the beach ball with their .... erm, fins :)

Slick! Xylo! Thank you for the tips. I'm off to work on the camera. :-)

And I'll have to try getting the fins to move, I got the boats to move in the background... need to add some seagulls.
