Editing or creating our own D-Pad?

The game I'm designing has the character moving on a Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, Southwest axis rather then a North, South, East, West axis. Will I be able to create my own D-Pad or edit the one build in, or do I need to redesign my game so it moves with the arrows that will show up on the iPhone?

    You would just need to turn off the D-Pad and create buttons for your customized directions.
