I think you have some solid techniques going on there, you have a decent handling on light rendering, shading etc.

Try not to take offense to anything below, I'm giving you my honest critique and I think you have a fair amount of potential.

You might perhaps need a bit of schooling on color theory, for example pairing a red-purple outfit with a bright red headed woman isn't the best example of good color theory. Those two color sort of wash together, you would ideally want to contrast the colors so that the red hair pops more. For example, if I were doing that same character, I would give her a dark green or blue outfit.

Color theory can be a bit tricky to get used to, but I would definitely look into it and download yourself a color wheel.

I think the weakest aspect of your work is your human forms. The proportions and whatnot need some work. I would suggest getting yourself a figure drawing book and practice drawing the human figure. A good book will teach you how to break down a body and set it up so that the proportions are correct (which is the most important part) If you're really serious about art, I would also suggest looking into a figure drawing class.

A book like this should help you a lot
    http://www.amazon.com/Artists-Complete-Guide-Figure-Drawing/dp/0823003035/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1301925384&sr=8-2

There are two really important lessons that any artist should know. How to do figure drawing -- this will allow you to draw any human form very well, be it real or imaginary -- and how to draw perspective.

And just so you don't think I'm some random dude talking nonsense about art, here is some examples of my figure drawing.

    Potentially NSFW (nude figure drawings)

Thanks for you critique its appreciated thanks for taking your time to write :-)

The reasoning behind the whole woman being red is set to reperesent fire, from the body up she is the colour of crimson and yellow (kinda like the deep colours of lava/fire) then her hair of course is bright orange - like a fire on top of her head.. she's a superhero that has some fire powers and a feiry character..... any other colour outfit would sway away from the that feiry effect I was perceiving. Then I used the blue for the weaopns - bright blue against the orange and red really stands out (opposite colours) - my idea was then to draw the attention to her laser torch weapons instead of just the character or her hair.. again if she was any other colour the blue wouldnt show up and also there would be too many colours standing out.. I like to have one item that really glows on each of my characters..

The human posture and stuff, I spent alot of my early artist life drawing creatures and aliens where the human form isnt necessary to learn but been spending the last year learning the human form.. at the moment im doing a course on the muscles and how each muscle looks at different proportions (quite a lot to take in) and theres still and always will be room for improvement,... the images you see there are if drawn on purpose to make the proportions look slightly exagerated (i.e the really thin waist, large breast, then big thighs.. she then looks really cartoony) and instead of showing all the muscles and keeping the body true to from i round of bits and create a more cartoony appearance - I would agree I always look back at my work and pick out hundreds of things that I could always perform on but I guess thats what makes my passion - always wanting to better myself :-) im running an exhibition at the moment and my paintings represent the human form but my style is to either create really elongated body bodies with spindly limbs. Ill put some up once i have them scanned onto a computer :-)

Here's some sketches that you may want to take a look at, again you will notice (especially on the death angel picture that I have elongated the torso...and again the last one, making her eyes look alot bigger than a humans normally would) I like my work to look slightly abstract but not loosing too much of the realness - if that makes any sense lol

Hey no problem, critique is part of the art process!

I understand where you're coming from, and I do think you have a consistent and distinct style, and that's hard to achieve.

I would still suggest that you ought to pay attention to proportions even when creating fictional characters, even if you're exaggerating certain features. Obviously, if you're doing a cartoon character, there is a lot more flexibility.

    For example in this drawing

    http://retromagnetic.carbonmade.com/projects/3041637#3

I would make the hips wider. Typically females hips are at least as wide or wider than their shoulder span. Males are the opposite, they have a wide shoulder span and narrow hips. And even though this clearly is a fantasy character, you still want to apply somewhat realistic proportions.

All in all though, keep up the great work!
