GS Splash Screen Clarifications

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Hi All;

I am still waiting on my iMac but am reading lots on the forums and watching the videos. However I am confused in regards to the GS Splash screen. From what I have read, every game made with GS has the GS splash screen added to it automatically durring the publishing process, is this correct?

If it is, why is this done given that Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for iOS specifically states "Avoid displaying an About window or a splash screen."

Thanks

Yes every game has a splash screen and apparently apple doesn't enforce that rule because my splash screen comes after GameSalads and almost every game I have every played has a splash screen of some sort.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Is there anyway to remove the logo or not have it placed as my first couple of apps using GS are not going to be games, they are going to be information libraries?

I find my splash screen is a handy place to load up some attributes, there are uses for these seemingly arbitrary things :)

Thanks for all the great replys and information. Unfortunately I will have to take these apps elsewhere as the GS splash screen is just not appropriate given the non gaming nature of these apps.

    Thanks

Dude - did I seriously just spend $500 on software that is forcing me to advertise their company on any app we create? What is the $500 for? Paypal dispute time

When you make your game a .app file just right click and click "show package contents." Then there will be the logo.mov there. If you want to take it out just drag it to the trash, but I don't recommend it.

    A) custom splash screen you now get B) paypal dispute wont do anything , you know what u paid for, 500 is for exactly the extra features it says, and any talk of refund would have to go threw gs C) just dragging the logo into the trash in show package contents with corrupt the file went u to try to publish

Ahhh.. So as a pro member you can create your own splash screen instead of the GS one?

just curious, but did you buy the pro edition on a whim? Like not really knowing what you were buying or getting in to? you don't NEED the pro edition if you are new to GS.

The developer who works for me likes Game Salad. He sent me an app to test and I noticed this GS Splash Screen. Naturally I asked him how do we remove this. He said we needed to buy the pro version.

yes you now have custom splashscreen as of last night its back.

Before that you couldnt though, so if the dev that works for u told you that before last night it would be the his fault for missiinforming you

but no fuss about it now, its back :)

    Cheers

Personally I don't mind having the GS splash screen on my game. If it is successful perhaps I'll spring for the Pro version and take it off BUT...

My game's main color is black, so GS people if you can see your way to making a black splash screen option then I'd be even more happy than I currently am with your awesome software!

Pro does not removes the splash. Used to, but not anymore (to be fair, it used to be $2000, now it is $499).

    Hey, everybody!

Site is updated and splash screen adjustments are live! New GS splash screens with no tagline for free users and the option for custom splash screens for Professionals.

Thanks, everyone, for your patience. We're all super excited about being able to do this and we can't wait for the other cool stuff we have in store for the coming weeks and months!

Stupid question: What is a tag line?

first off, if you thought about dragging out the splash screen by showing package contents SHAME ON YOU.

you get to use insanely good software for FREE and all they want is a 2 second (good looking) ad just before your app that you are going to be making money from.

It would be different if gamesalad took a percentage of your earnings, or had a long and ugly splash screen but thats not the case.

    Yup I agree.
Thats why I said I didn't recommend it. I would never do anything like that to GS, just wanted to know if other people knew about it or not.

yea, I know a few people who have tried it. I don't understand WHY they would? I want game salad to get even more popular so then they become better and better!

@BlazingApplication...think in this case it means "feed your inner game designer"...

    Love that post...@idoistuff!

Have pro and will use custom splash... but think GameSalad deserves credit...
