Any way to animate video so it runs smooth

I saw that someone posted a test of video which they animated at 5 fps.

I was wondering if it was possible to do it so that the video appeared a little smoother?

    GS supports up to 30 fps. That's smooth as hell. But of course, you'll need a ton of frames.

    Are there any programs out there that will chop up a video recording into individual frames (png files or something)?

    Yes there is, it is built into Quicktime 7. If you have Snow Leopard you will have to download it from Apple's web site.
    You also may need its pro version.
