Seeing QS's post about the ZX81 made me reminisce about the good old days of gaming, and what got me hooked. This post or something similar to it has probably already been done, but I thought I'd ask people here, what was the very first game you ever played that had you hooked into gaming forever?

The first game I ever remember playing and getting hooked into gaming for life was "Time Pilot" in the Arcade. I absolutely LOVED that game. I would ride my bike down to the local shopping center in Aussie, and my parents always knew where to find me... with a stack of 20 cent coins on the machine and playing Time Pilot ;)

What was the very first game you ever played, and what made it so memorable?

No idea what it was called. But when I was very young (26-27 years ago or so), my neighbor had a computer that had this game where you played a ninja. It was on an Apple computer (with the 5.25" discs) and the old screens only had two colors; black and green.

It was a pretty sweet game. Don't remember anything else about it, don't remember the name or the actual computer used (other than it being an Apple).

First game I played was Space War, then Pong on the same day. Been addicted ever since.

I believe it was one of the first home 'pong' machines - the ones with 'football' and 'hockey' as selectable extra games!

A massive amount of my childhood was spent in arcades though. Loved them dearly!

    QS :D

I don't remember the name of the first electronic game I played but it was a arcade type game that had planes flying overhead on a mirror that reflected from a TV image below with an "Actual Model tank" that you controlled the turret on and fired a holographic missle up at the planes that showed up on top of the tank and moved in 3D crazy, I remmember this game like yesterday.

I'm not sure I remember correctly...so it was either

A pong type thing made by Binatone - "TV Master??" - (had tennis, squash etc..you know the type of thing)

    Or

The Atari2600 version of Space Invaders that my friend had. I also remember playing Pac Man on the 2600 on the same day, and thinking I had to press the fire button every time I wanted to eat a dot :)

and from that moment on, I was hooked.

There was another old arcade game I played around '84-86, and it was a fighter game where you moved to the right, and you would knock armor off the boss at the end (with a whip or sword?) (I vaguely remember what it looked like, but I would love to revisit it if someone could give me a clue as to what arcade game it is)

I can't even remember the name of it, or what character(s) you played with but I distinctly remember knocking armor off enemies....

This is sooo cool! I decided to google it, and found that it was "Gladiator" for the Arcade! So cool to revisit games you can barely remember playing!! :)

    edit: http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8039

It must have been 19seventy something edit: 1975). Waaaay back in time ;)
It was a game with a black background and white cowboys on the left and right. Sometimes a buggy drove in the middle as an obstacle.

And a Tron/Snake like game I believe named barricade.

It was at the bowling alley my family would use to go. I never wanted to bowl... Momma can I have another quarter ;)

(thanks for the link to the museum Marc_n_Soph)

original super mario i think. pretty sure whatever it was, it was on the original NES. although, i didn't really get into games until i got the Sega Genesis. 16-bit was awesome. Sonic, Road Rash, etc...awesome games.

Now that I thought about it, Road Rash may have been my favorite game of my early gaming life.
