Another hackintosh question

Hi Everyone,

Right now I just do not have the money for a mac and I know it would be much better to use one rather than a hackintosh. I have read through many postings on here about using a hackintosh and it seems many people have had good luck with them.

For those of you who have done this, do I need to use an Intel cpu pc to do this since that is required on the mac side? Or is anything allowed such as an AMD?

Any suggestions would be helpful! I plan to buy a mac just after I see this in action myself.

Thanks!

GameSalad requires an Intel processor. That's for sure.

I doubt it would work on an AMD. possible since I think GameSalad requires intel because they require SnowLeopard. If you can get snowleopard to run and an AMD it might Not for sure since the hacks may be tricking Snowleopard into think its intel or something who knows. Give it a shot. I can tell you a hackintosh will be pretty unstable at least thats been my experience. Nothing like the real thing.

Thats what I plan to get is a mac mini but I have some extra netbooks and laptops sitting around. I guess I just need to buy the mac OS and I can try it on a hackintosh first. Once I just make one game and see I can do it without a problem, I will drop a few hundred on a mac mini.

I'm not sure why but people that used AMD processors had it working but the navigation buttons caused it to crashed when using the mouse. Keyboard shortcuts seemed to work okay for them.

I've also considered using VMWare but that is $151! Does anyone else know of a VM brand that is cheaper that works?

    Thanks!

I'm running on a hackintosh right now (waiting for new mac mini refresh in the summer), and all I can say is that I can tell it doesn't work all that well.

Don't get me wrong, I am probably 50% completed on a game and it functions well, but I often have to just save and close GS at least once every 30-45minutes because it ends up taking 3-4 seconds to load rules and expressions on actors I open.

Not only that, I am running GTX 560s and nvidia does not have drivers for OSX with the 500 series so I am stuck developing in 1024x768 which is a pain considering I have 3 1080p monitors I use for my PC.

I do not think using a hackintosh for permanent development in GS should be considered at all. It seems like you are in the same boat as me and are just waiting to save up some cash or wait for the new mac minis.

It will be interesting to see how the new update of Gamesalad works on Hackintosh, now that they have resolved the memory leak.

Like shanes429 said i am also using a hackintosh. Unlike him i have my native display 1300 but also i must close GS a few times in the day because it also starts slowing down on opening actors to load rules and expression. So I guess other than that , that's pretty mush the only issue I have had so far.

This thread was a month old so there is no need to bump as well as please do not post videos of how to break apples license agreements since We rely on apple for our money. its best not to piss them off. There are forums and other websites where he can find that information.
