Inkscape/Artwork Question

DrGlickertDrGlickert Member Posts: 1,135
How do I make the background of a picture that I'm making 'transparent'?

I'm making a cannon looking thing and want the end to have a rounded appearance, but I'll be placing it on a square shaped actor. I don't want the white background to show up from the picture. I want the background from my game to show up.

I'm using Inkscape to do my art/graphics.

Thanks everyone!

Hey Doc, long time no see.....

Basically, save your artwork in png format.
Then double click it to open in preview mode
From the top menu, choose: "Select > Instant Alpha"
Place your mouse cursor on the color you want to remove and drag the mouse a bit which will select.
    Press backspace.
Save once more in png format.

    Operation successful ;)

Yeah man, been real busy. Plus I've run into a few snags with GS and my game so I get kind of frustrated.

BUT, thanks for the help! Things are looking more and more promising!

Double click the actor then on the left hand side you will see Colour press that and a window should pop up to change the actor colour.

Then below that there is a slider called opacity

Slide left and right to adjust the opacity

That will make the image transparent Also :)

@Dr. Surely inkscape has a way to do a transparent Background. Gimp gives you the option when you create a new image but not sure with inkscape. I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out.

Well sorry doc I cant figure out how to get a transparent canvas

The inkscape canvas is transparent by default. If you export to PNG with nothing behind a shape it will have transparent areas in the PNG. You dont need to do anything in inkscape to get it.
