how to make a fader?

Hi. how would you go about making a fader that you can move up/down a specified line and the output a value -0 for lowest location - 10 for highest location? - the numbers dont really matter of course.. this is just an example:)

I of course could just make 10 actors (or whatever resolution i want) and then line them up next to each other, and then when actor1 pressed=change att X to 1. when actor2 pressed=change att X to 2.
But isnt there a smarter way?

    You coud try constraining the actors x position to the touch's x position (or y positions) and say when actor position x is >whatever number and <whatever number and touch is released do whatever

    Otherwise just using 10 different actors is the easiest way to go. IMO 10 actors, as long as they're not rule heavy and they just sit there and can have moveable unchecked wont really hurt your performance or anything.
