Largest scene dimensions?

I'd like to make a top-down RPG type game. What is the largest dimensions that the scene can be? Is there a limit?

    I think the "Scene" can be as big as you want, but the actors in the scene like the setting/backdrop have a limit.

    I think the max size that an actor can be is 1024 by 1024 pixels

    the largest size is the limit of your imagination :-P

    What about for the iPad? Is it the same? 1024x1024?
