I agree. According to the data I've seen, Android users download a lot of free apps, but not many paid apps, so money has to be made from advertising.
Also, because there is more money to be earned from iPhone apps, the best developers (and therefore the best apps) are on the iPhone, which means the Android market and the quality of its apps will take ages to improve, so people won't pay for the apps, so developers won't develop for Android, so that market will take ages to improve . . . it's a vicious cycle.
I'm hugely generalising of course, but this does seem to be the general trend.

Yes - you need to use Lua, and yes you can't currently create an Android app without coding as far as I'm aware.
Also, if you can't code, you could learn - I'm sure there was a point in your life you didn't know how to use cutlery, which I must assume you now do.
That said, GS is great - very easy to pick up in a short time I still have a GS game that gets decent sales despite it being one of my first and so not overly polished.
Partially true — I've experienced a lot of frustration with Android, but it is a large market that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

Not true... not for me anyway. I did alright with advertisement based apps on Android. If I had learned about AdMob sooner, I might not be here today.
mlafta said: I started learning both Corona and GS at the same time but I have to be honest I love GS more
I like GameSalad better than Corona. That's because the software matches my style. I don't like coding. Corona is powerful though. I liked access to their 500+ APIs.

Photics said: I don't understand why the Amazon Appstore exists. If I want to buy Android apps, I could go to the Android Market. Is there an advantage in going with Amazon?
I think it has to do with payment .. lots of one-click purchasers are already in Amazons system so selling Apps, books, toys etc fits their world shop idea. Not saying its good or not, but I think that's part of the reason.
I use Corona. Just the past few weeks I've been looking at Game Salad as I will be running a Game Camp for kids. It looks like it is much easier to pick up than Corona. There also tons of tutorials for it. That said, at this time, I find it easier to manipulate files with Corona. However, if you want full access to iOS, one will need to use Objective-C. Even then, you still can't get to the camera without jail-breaking the device (if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know).
I say use the right tool for the job. Don't get hung up the technology. But look at what you want to do and determine how you will go about doing it and find the best tools for it.
Thanks for the info. I've recently completed a camera app and know its limitations. At this time, it captures only the surface area of the iOS screen and you will need to do a complete workaround to maintain the 512x382 image dimensions. I got it working. It still needs work but it is much better.
The daily builds have yet to address the issue of full resolution captures but I know they are working on it. I watch those builds like a hawk.
Both GS, Corona and Monkey are in my arsenal for deploying apps based on the circumstances and budgets.
@jsaligeri, moving fast - yes they do. Carlos is an amazing individual. He carries the same mo as me. We are relentless with our work.
It's new. I've made a simple game with it. It isn't drag and drop and it outputs to HTML5 which the reason it interests me the most. It looks to me it can be accessed via console (tho don't quote me on that) and opens up a myriad of possibilities. It's not as polished as GS or Corona but the guys that run are really nice. They reply to my e-mails all the time and give me good info.
mlafta said: Can you use it create games/apps on iPhone?
Yes. For Windows, Android and iOS. You can also output to Web as an HTML5. That is powerful. Check out their site, more info there.
At this time, it is not a dnd type of app. Unless you know how to code, it's going to be painful to use. GS is a viable option if you don't know or don't like to hand code your games.
For some coding is just not an option. I never got the hang of it. I'm very visually orientated or perhaps code challenged.
GS is a big help for me. I'm on my second app and first game (and some test projects) and find some short comes with GS but there is often a good work around.
And I agree with jtadeo: 'I say use the right tool for the job. Don't get hung up the technology. But look at what you want to do and determine how you will go about doing it and find the best tools for it.' (You see I don't even no the code for Quotes )
@Cardinal: It is certainly not a punch in the face to GameSalad! GameSalad is awesome software. I was just at SXSW in Texas for a week promoting GameSalad!
I was just mentioning the Amazon Appstore. Grisly Manor is #15 in Top Paid Apps btw, w00t!

It has the "Created with the other product" badge and was chosen as app of the week as well.

Is there an advantage in going with Amazon?
How many apps are on the store?
That sounds like good news though. Heh, even if it was made with Corona.

Camera --Corona is getting there http://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2011/02/04/camera-access-and-manipulating-output especially if you have access to the daily builds.
Surely there are loads off native apps with full camera access.
Those guys move fast.
