Tip: Use Dropbox

This has been discussed many times before, but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention now that DropBox just saved my ass.
I've been using dropbox for over a year, and started using it with GameSalad about 4 mths ago. I've got two development situations. At home on my 27" iMac, and on the train with my 11" Macbook Air. Previously I was just using a thumbdrive to move the files back and forth, but that caused a few problems when files would get out of sync. So, last fall I decided to go all in with DropBox.
I've got folders setup on both my iMac and my Macbook. I created a development folder and dropped in all my assets, and the project file, and 15 minutes later everything was synced. Now, whenever I work on a file, everything is kept in sync.
Now, how did dropbox save my ass? This morning on the train I accidentally deleted a major actor that was present in all 60 of my levels... and then saved and closed it without thinking. Since I happen to be sitting on my MyWi connection, that error synced back home.
Now, the nice thing about syncing back home, is that I also run Time Machine back home, so using LogMeIn Ignition on my phone, I loaded up Time Machine and restored a copy of the file from a few hours earlier, and dropbox synced it right to my laptop! Crisis averted!
Now, just to be on the safe side, I do have a few rules on using this method:
1. Never open the file at the same time from two locations
2. When you save a file while on an active internet connection, always wait for those changes to sync before moving on
3. If you make changes on one machine, make sure those changes are synced before picking up on the other machine (this hurt to me once when I disabled my airport)
Anyways, I can't recommend DropBox enough, it has really simplified the way I work with GS. Plus, the 2GB of online storage really helps.
If you feel like signing up, and don't mind giving me a referral (and a free 250mb) use this link: http://db.tt/XXOTyFf Otherwise just visit dropbox.com and signup for yourself!
