edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
Started work on an adventure game in a similar mech to Joe's Grisly Manor.

I must say i never knew how complex these things were to make (hats off to Joe!) but i planned it well and I'm only using 1 actor for all the items and 1 actor for all the puzzles 1 actor for all the text...you get the idea :P

My girlfriend is a big fan of these types of games and has all the latest adventure games from bigfish so she's helping with some bits and bobs :P

Features:

Intelligent Inventory: slots will fill up from the left.

Multi item puzzles..collect screw, place screw, use wrench to screw down etc.

No load times when in the same area.

Lots of things to do like interactive puzzles (hidden object scenes or slider puzzle etc), text and text box, loads more scenes etc etc but it's certainly coming along great.

Darren.

wow amazing darren. when will you launch?
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
Probably take at least 3 months...we want it to have a lot of replay value and be a pretty big game offering a good few hours game time.

What your seeing there is only one unfinished scene and a days work.

That's a very professional looking game.

I don't think the templates are a good idea. Here's why...

Out of the 2600 active members here, what if you got $20 from each of them?

    That's $52,000 — Nice money!

Yet, it doesn't compare to the $70,000 Joe made with his game. It doesn't compare to the millions of dollars that a game like Angry Birds, Tiny Wings, Fruit Ninja or Cut the Rope can make.

Also, as I said before, it is totally bad idea (for adventure games fans) to sell this great project as a template.

Is this not true of *any* template?

It could be, but I told that as a huge fan of point&click adventure games, and I saw what happend with other great templates - many people just submited them to AppStore with just a small changes, and I wouldn't like to see my favorite genre to be destroyed, by people wanting easy money.

Well, let's concentrate on the positive.

This game looks awesome! Already, in just one scene, it's looking like a lot of fun!

    Good luck with it Darren!

Looks awesome! I had one question though...

When you put the foot on the robot, it looked like you clicked on the robot's chest. Does the player not need to click on the specific area of the robot they want to attach something to?

Looks fantastic mate, can't wait to see it on the App Store!

I agree, don't make this one a Template dude you make so many good ones that should be games, as much as I love taking advantage of your Graphics I think it'd be better for the community you didn't release Templates with Graphics. But that's your call : )

    Awesome looking Game, GREAT Graphics.

The robot is in 2 parts, head and body, you can select anywhere on the body then the pieces OR pieces then body to attach arms legs etc.

Thanks for the feedback guys and I'm not sure about a template for this because it's a pretty complex beast and new users would struggle understanding it i think.

Actually i think most of the members here are already trying to reverse engineer it while watching the video. Kinda like figuring out how it ticks.

This just shows that gamesalad can produce complex games. Now i just hope they fix some memory issues and GC capability.

I'm actually wondering why GS cant free up memory when you destroy objects while in xcode it took only one word "release".

Worked on the save load today...there's alot to think about but...

It will now save your game automatically (if you collect an item if you complete a puzzle etc).

You will also restart from the room you were last in (not just the scene but the room on the scene) when you reboot your device.

You can also carry items over to a new scene now.

Getting the logic in has been a challenge but I'm enjoying it.

Darren - another great looking game.
Can you share some insight into how you got such an awesome video made?
  • UtopianGamesUtopianGames Member Posts: 5,692
The video was recorded with iShowU HD.

    Hey Darren!

Sorry, just saw this! It looks fantastic!

And thanks for the props! Yeah, the game logic was difficult to plan out, but as with all these types of games, the most difficult thing is actually finishing them..

They require so much artwork and time to build them, that I find it tough to stay motivated.

Really looking forward to playing this one!!!
