iAD -- Dumbed Down....
How many of you are using iAD? With iAD alone what is the avg return in money? Do you get money if someone clicks an ad and make a purchase. Or do you get money if they just click the add and view the advertisement page? In regards to the 499$ is it a good investment with iAds alone? Can someone dumb down how iADs work. Throw me a sales pitch on iADs.

You get something like 0.01 % of a cent for each ad that is displayed
Then more if they actually press the ad... anything from 50 cents to $2 i think... (maybe not quite as high as $2).
And they are really really easy to add to your game. make some space for them at the top or bottom of your game, add the 'iad' behavior.
With Apple you have to fill in a form and then turn on iads for the game in ituens connect (you have to do it after submitting the app but before uploading the binary I think).
So I'd say yes its worth the $499 , plus you can have your own splash screen which is great as you can then offer your services as an app developer to companies/people etc. As they prefer not have a GameSalad intro.
I also sell an ad free version of the game, which gets a few sales a day. I'm yet to add a button in the free version with ads to the paid version.
However, it's a numbers game. An example;
If you find a really awesome game/app you'll (on average) tell about 6-8 people. Everyone you tell will always ask the same question; "how much is it?" (or, "is it free?"). Of those 6-8 people that you told if the app costs money, only about 1-2 of those people will download it and pay for it. But if it's free and has ad support then about 4-5 people will download it. (Imagine 1 to two months after release how many more people have downloaded the free app vs. the paid app).
Also, the type of game is very important in determining if you should use Ad support. Meaning, that some advertisers will pay-per-exposure and/or pay-per-click. If you have a game that players can play for long periods of time (more than 20 minutes each time) then the pay-per-exposure value can really start to ad up.
If it's a pay-per-click then the short games (casual games) can really ad up quickly.
If you really want my advice? I plan to release my games with ad support AND a pay-per-download game. It will be the exact same game, but one has ads, and one does not. If the game is a really fantastic game, then charge more for the pay-per-play game (like 1.99 vs .99). A good example of this is "Words With Friends."
Gamers that love the game will be willing to pay for the game without the ads and those that think it's okay/are cheap will use the free version. This way you have two forms of revenue generation for games.
Short answer; pay for the professional license to get ads.
Sales pitch complete.
Good luck!!
Scenerio 1: App is turned on by customer. Customer is playing game.iads banner is displayed. Customer never touched the banner for 6 months time.
Is money made with iAds.
Scenerio 2: App is turned on by customer. Customer is playing game. iAds banner is displayed. Customer sees ad for a new app/new movie/NikeShoes. Customer clicks one of these ads. Looks at full screen ad. Customer decides not to buy new app/ doesnt buy a ticket on fandango/ doesnt download the 15$ coupon for nike Shoes. Customer goes back to playing game.
Is money made via iads?
Scenerio 3: same as scenerio 2 execpt customer does buy app or purchases a ticket for the movie via fandango or downloads a coupon for the nike shoes.
Is money made via iads.
And I would assume 1 download of my free app with iads will bring in less iad profits VS 200 people downloading my free app with iads.
@Dr.
You need way more than 4-5 downloads a day to get a good fill rate for your app. I get 4-5 downloads a day on an old free app with ads and get maybe $0.01 per day in ads if i'm lucky. Its because even though there is a thousand requests for ads in that day I get almost no fill rate since I have a low download count. When the app first released I was getting a massive fill rate until the downloads dropped off. So you really need a game like whatever stormy has going to make any money on ads IMO. I'm guessing its something that has a massive replay value.
The impressions will pay out $0.001 to $0.01 per banner display and the clicks will pay something like $0.20 - $2.00
And yes I believe the payout as well as the fill rate of your ad requests are determined partially based on download count.
or turn on my iphone my ipad and plug them in the wall and leave the app with iads running banners all day long? hahahaha
Dont know about clicking your ads all day. I've noticed on my app the same ad appears a lot so it may not pay out for each click of the same ad.
