edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
First off, hello to you all - Im new to the forum.

So the challenge has been set to me by some at my office. That one day, some time soon I hope, I will learn how to build and create an iphone app that will be on the App Store and sell to at least one phone other than my own (and my mother). Apart from i do not code... AT ALL. So gamesalad seemed the best way foward...

Apart from going through the youtube channel (cookbook). Has any one got any other good ideas on where to start learning and picking tips and tricks on gamesald??

I have been tracking my limited (very limited) progress on a blog you can find here.

Thanks guys and hope this post find you happy and well.

    1) Start making a game. That's how I started. There is a learning curve. I've been at it for about 2 months and have really started feeling comfortable with the GS software. However, I learn something new every day that I spend working with GS.

    2) Fall in love with the forums. Post your questions here and be as specific as possible as to what you're trying to do. If you don't know exactly how to ask the question then break it down into easy to follow steps of what you're wanting to do. If that fails, try and take pictures of what you've got so far (coding) and post them for us to see and we'll help you.

    3) Search first. Very often your questions have been asked before and you can find the answer in other forums.

    4) I've watched a LOT of the GameSaladCookBook videos on YouTube. I've often times watched then 4, 5, 6, or even 12 times. It helps if you follow along with GS and do what TShirtBooth is doing in the videos to familiarize yourself with everything.

    5) Don't get frustrated. Frustration leads to anger, which leads to giving up. Take a few minutes and recharge yourself and get at it again. I've spent many hours beating my head against the desk on something, taken a walk, came back and it's always some stupid little thing that I did and the problem is solved in a minute or less.

    6) Don't be afraid of failure. Learning from failure leads to more success. Giving up leads to true failure.

    7) We're here to help. Soon, you'll be answering these forum questions with ease and you'll be an expert soon enough!!

    Hey Phil!

YOU are a lucky man (because they could have given you a MUCH harder challenge) and more and more videos are available plus, there is a ton of posts here that deal with the obvious things.

Depending how old your mom is, you might have to start reading a LOT but if she is in good health and on the right side of 60 you don't need to worry!

I hope you will enjoy creating stuff! :)

P.S. On your web site, you spelled the tag "iphone" wrong in the March 28 entry!

P.S.S. You might want to search for "photics unofficial gamesalad text book". It's a bargain compared to spending $10 every month for the next 25 years on do-it-yourself hair colour products to mask the gray ;)

Thanks xyloFUN. My mother is the indeed the right side of 60 although a bit overweight so i wouldn't say fighting fit. But all the same i will be back here to find some videos as well as ask you all some extremely obvious questions.

    Thanks again for the encouragement.

    Hi Phil,

I have found that looking at the sample templates and templates others have posted is the best way to poke around and learn how its done.

In case you don't know .. when you open GS Creator in the NEW+ area you will see templates for a variety of games types that GS has put there for you. If you use the search for certain terms there you may find other templates to do different actions. Double click anything that interests you and it will open on your computer to save/edit/review.

    GL.

    Go for it Philip!

I should write a post about how to make a game (steps from idea to creation)...

Maybe one day I'll get around to it.

That would be a GREAT idea!
And as far as finding time to do it goes ... can't you write your own "sick" notes for your boss?

    Philip,
scroll down to the bottom of this page and in the footer section, look for "How To's". I managed to get some useful info out of there :)

NOTE: There was an ad posted here from @Aldin ... that I was responding to BUT now its gone. Anyway if @Aldin sees this then he can fix his ad before posting again:

@Aldin .... love to see a website with a bunch of samples .... and fairly important for a designer to proof their work so your first revision should be your own.

Spelling 'Unlimted Revision' should be 'Unlimited Revisions' and 'illustrator profesional' should be 'illustrator professional'.
Otherwise good luck, the artistic part of your ad looks clean, well spaced and designed.
