Number of Levels

I know that a more definitive answer would depend on the individual game, but what would be a good aim for the number of levels in a new game? I think I would prefer to have a reasonably good number of levels....see the response, and have an update plan if there is interest. I have enjoyed making the game, but don't want to overdo it only to find there's not interest. I currently have 36 levels nearly completed, with more sketched out (possibly for an update). What are your thoughts?

I think the more levels the better the chances of selling your game. Think about it most games are similar for the most part. So are you going to spend your dollar on the game with 50 levels or 100?

in my first game I want to have 480 levels at first, then 300 then 200 then 100 then 80 then 48
    only 10 percent left

Im launching my new game with 100 levels. I completed level 98 this morning. It's a lot of hard work, but it makes the game seem so much bigger.

100 is a nice big round number.

This is a completely subjective question.

If a level takes 15-30 seconds to beat, I sure a heck better be getting about 100 levels.

If a level takes 15-30 minutes to beat, I sure as heck would be pissed about 100 levels. It'd take too long to play and I'd get bored with it too quick.

I'd figure out about how long an average player would take to beat a level, then adjust to try and get it to a few hours of game play. Just my opinion.

This is a very good point. Another issue is can your game have 100 unique levels or are you just duplicating the same level over and over.

I dont agree to much with if it takes $15 min to beat a level I wouldn't like 100 I would only be pissed if each level was basically the same and it took 15 min each.

There's also games like tiny wings that are essentially 1 level yet have a massive replay value since each time through you have new challenges to complete.
