Today I met with the Center for Advanced Digital Applications at NYU-SCPS. The center is interested in hosting an event. It seems that my textbook was impressive and I've been invited to speak about the publishing of computer animated content to the web and mobile devices. The session is to be about an introduction to web and mobile publishing. I'll be discussing things like HTML 5 video, GameSalad, Corona and other related topics.
Does this sound like an event that is interesting to you? It is an event that is free to the public, but space is limited. If interest is strong, the venue can be expanded somewhat. For those that cannot attend, a video of the session will be published online.
I think this is an excellent opportunity for animators and developers to get together. The tentative schedule is May 7, 1-3 PM in the PC/Mac computer lab. 11 west 42nd street, 10th floor, Manhattan. It sits about 30 people with computers and room for another 20 spectators in the back. There's also a nice area outside the lab for socializing and networking with your peers. It could be a spectacular educational event.
The event will be more focused towards computer animators, as the center trains people to work for big companies like Pixar and Dreamworks. However, the Director has expressed an interest in adapting their Masters program to include mobile and web development — like 3D game creation with Unity.
I think it's an excellent direction, but it might be a big jump to get animators to take an interest in programming and game development. Something like Unity could seem intimidating or scary. That's where I can be helpful. This workshop/lecture is one of the steps towards the including of web and mobile development in CADA's Master program. It's an introduction into web and mobile publishing. Before building a new program, feasibility and interest has to be gauged.
So, are you interested?!

The event is still being finalized, so I don't have more details yet. I think this is a good step towards improving the reputation of East Coast game development. There are a lot of GameSalad developers in the tri-state area, so this could be a really cool event.
