Paid App VS Free With iAds

Hello everyone,

I am planning on starting a new project, and I would like your opinion on this. I realize every app is different, but in the interest of generating the most revenue form this app, would it be better to charge the lowest pricing tier ($0.99 USD) for the app or make the game free, but have iAds in it. I don't want to give away too many details about the app, but I can tell you it will be an endless game in which you try to dodge certain objects while controlling another object and get the best score you can. Fairly simple concept, but I absolutely LOVE games like this, so I thought I would improve upon the ones I have seen/played. So my question is this. Based off of your experience, would a game like the one I have described generate more revenue if it cost $0.99 or if it was free but contained iAds? Please vote in the poll for this thread, and leave your feedback as well. Thanks for your help everyone.

Your asking impossible questions. You need to just make a game you are confident with. keep in mind you are not going to make much of anything unless you are getting 1000's of downloads a day every day for a very extended period of time. there is no way to tell what will sell and what wont. just make a good game you love and then try very hard to market it to the review sites. and hope for the best.

You should make both, one with iads and an upgrade for $.99. That's what I'll do when I get pro.

iAds will make you some extra pocket change, but unless this game is incredible and getting 1000's of downloads a day, you won't make much.

just out or curiosity, if you made a free game like bubbleball that got to the top and put Iads in, how much on estimate do you think you would make?

Interestingly I've just made an app free with iAds and so far done 50000 downloads in 3 days. I'll let you know some iAd sales data when I have it over a couple of weeks. Initially it looks to be about $30 a day, I think.

And thats the catch I think. in a couple weeks if your downloads drop off it seems like your fill rate drops. I saw pretty good results the first couple days of iAds with my free version. Like 20-50% fill rates, but after the downloads dropped off even though there were still a lot of requests being made it didn't get a good fill rate anymore. When I did an update it came back up a little but you need the steady downloads I think to maintain a good fill rate, Which is were you make your money cause not many people click ads it seems.
