Suggestion for Pro Version.

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
It seems that the reputation of GS made games is a hot topic these days. One of the concerns from alot of GS Developers is being able to seperate their work from GS while still using the GS engine. Though having the ability to remove the GS splash screen is a help. There seems to be one other lil tell tell sign that screams.... " MADE BY GAMESALAD!!!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES"

That would be the lil tell tell loading circle. I am going to make this suggestion. I hope its a great idea and I hope you will run to your local congressman ( or who ever you local official is outside the United States)
and tell them this need to be implemented A.S.A.P.

In the Pro version allow the user a prompt that allows them to choose from
25-50 different loading sprites that are made by GS. And also allow the user to import a Sprite of their own making to represent their loader.

GS if you want more Pro subscriptions....... This alone will do the trick.

this way the developers loader can match the games color scheme and theme.

I want to make this a Poll.

This will be Bumped for a few days.

oh ignore the comedy in it. Just vote how strong you think the idea is.

Theres nothing wrong with how it's set up now. If you want to make games for free then live with the current splash screen, if you think thats damaging your reputation then just dish out the money for pro. It's not that big of deal.

I dont think anything bad or negative toward the software at all. Im ok if it never updates. I just know there are some serious game developers here. And Im sure the more bells and whistles the better. I just know that people are asking for alot of improvments with the software. Since it wouldnt be hard to implement. I thought it would just be one more way GS could please its user base. Having the option to change your loader to me isnt asking them alot. Maybe I should have added.. Make sure this isnt implemented until after we get Game Center and In APP purchases hahaha.

I agree, it's fine as it is now. Perhaps shorter loading times would be better. But still, fine the way it is.

Would I prefer them to be making 25 - 50 pointless little loading graphics or getting GameCenter out to pro users faster? While many little things would be nice there are lots of bigger things to be working on right now.

If this is your stumbling block for not purchasing a pro license then don't buy it for now. Just seems a bit of a strange reason though.

Im thinking this idea would be enjoyed more if Game Center was out already. Seems no one wants GS to focus on any but getting that implemted hahaha.

It's a good idea for an addition to the Pro Membership. But Game Centre is the most important thing at the moment.

Isn't that coming out this week?

one thing at a time. GS is notoriously slow for feature additions.

although saying that anything below I would rate way above a new loading circle:

    - expression editor in URL link
    - memory leak fixing in creator
    - spawn actor memory issue sorted
    - facebook / twitter support
    - more advertising options
    - sprite sheet support
    - joints for attaching actors
    - performance improvements
    - new APIs (camera, vibration, gyroscope)
    - pixel collision

    to name just a few.

I think its things like this that make people want to get rid of the splash screen. Im sure you all have seen these guys trash GS before.

They arent targeting this app. They seem to want to target GS as well.
  • CaptFinnCaptFinn Member Posts: 1,828
Stus I agree. Those things seem like it would take along time and alot of people to fix. Something like the ability to switch out the loader with your own sprite. Thats something they could code and test in 2-3 days. 1 person at GS could do that easily.

If you take a list of things. and sort them from easiest to hardest. You will check the list off faster doing the faster things first.

But I do understand where your coming from. Like I said this is something i would ask for once all the other main issues are taken care of.

Can you blame them? Even if that game didn't have the GS loading screen they would of still given that kind of review. I admit that they may have been a little too harsh but there is truth to everything they said.

LOL That video makes me want to get the Pro version even more.
$3 lol... no offense but that game is umm.. no comment.
Their opinions are pretty wrong though. Some Code minded people make good and bad games while GS users do the same. It's all about time and effort. Hence why I have no games out. Haven't been very happy with them yet : )

Sorry Jeff, but having more loading icons would'nt help me make the leap to pro.

My main wish at the moment is to simply improve loading times, and improve them alot.

Its the one large draw of ever looking at any other game engine, but the speed of making stuff in GameSalad and the lack of code always win out.

I know everyone wants GameCentre, I'm sure its cool, personally I always get annoyed when I load up a new game and it wants my login details, but then I only play games to get ideas to then play in GameSalad. I'm looking forward to Facebook support more, to help get the word the game out there via people posting their scores as their status's.

Cheers for the loading icon idea, its a nice one, just don't see that as a problem. It would be a nice feature especially to be able to have your own custom icon, to match your games design.

As for people slating GameSalad, this is down to games being so easy to make, and some real rubbish, or very quick re-workings of templates making it onto the app store. Not having the splash screen allows you to get away from this reputation, but if you game is still below par then your still have bad reviews.

If everyone could make a few good games then game-salads reputation would rise with it.

I totaly agree with you Storm. I had just noticed in the last few weeks alot of talk in the forum posts about how important it was or how happier they were not having the splash screen. Even a few mentioned that even without the splash screen you still know its a GS game with the load screen. So I thought if one of the main reason for pro was getting rid of the splash screen. That also picking your own load icon would help as well. I know alot didnt pick pro for the splash screen removal. I know alot picked it for the url and iads. But alot here have admitted that spalsh screen removal was a strong reason for the purchase. And again I agree with the long list of important things that need to be fixed with the GS engine and User interface and other options like GC. That something like options for personal loader screens is no where close to be a desired option at this time. I still believe every lil tweak counts.

Evertime I watch that video, I think of how much of an a**hole those guys are. I mean, think about it. there have been plenty of VERY successful gamesalad games. Then there have been the submissions that suck. these guys are just d*cks in my opinion. They say that about GS because they wish they could do something. (just the way I put it into my head)

There are other vids where they talk bad about GS. But that one was the worst.

I dont really get why we cant define our own. I mean its got to be a set of images somewhere in the file so why not make it so we can set our own fully custom loading animation or chose to remove it all together. but either way there are bigger fish to fry before they look at little things like this IMO

Honestly they're no-bodies from a no-traffic review site. We're referencing a video on a site (that no one visits) that hasn't been updated in 8 months, their opinion is irrelevant. Not to mention that they're mean spirited and pretension to boot.

The point of implementing various loading sprites would be to eliminate the obvious sign the game was made with GameSalad, along with personalizing the game further. It is a feature parallel to the custom splash screen that so many people begged for, and I think it would be an excellent addition to pro. Of course the current sprite is included with interface builder, so it may not be as easy to the devs to implement as you think. But I think it would be very helpful and drive more people to buy pro.
