What's the best way to add shading and dimension to vector drawings?

i use the old cartoon method of 3 colors only to draw all my graphics in flash. main color, high lights, and shadows. You can use more to get more depth.

    from my diver game:

i should also say, i do it by adding new layers in flash for the shadows and setting the alpha to 30 or 50 percent, depending on how dark you need the shadows.

I use blob brush in Illusrator for everything.. used with wacom you reslly get nice lines from thin to thick with it and you just use it as a regular brush. I first do outlines on a layer, then i paint base color with blob brush, then shadows and highlights.. then i recolor the outlines and add some details..

I actualy hate watermarks but im planing on using this one..
